Store Clerk & Sorting Room Worker_NE-PMC_401-Thrift Store Department Hagerstown, MD 525 George Street 21740, 525 GEORGE ST, Hagerstown, Maryland, United States of America Req #32006 Wednesday, August 14, 2024 The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a FT Store Clerk/Sorting Room Worker position for the Hagerstown, MD Corps under the Potomac Division. Position Summary The Store Clerk function may include a regular shift as part of the daily workload. Assists store customers in donating, selecting, and purchasing store items; operates and maintains a cash register; responds to customers' questions; maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of the store displays; ensures the security of store items and the cash register. The Sorting Room Worker function includes receiving, sorting, pricing, and preparing donated items for display in the store; determines suitability and pricing of items based on established standards; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the warehouse area. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED Education and Experience High School diploma or G.E.D., and experience working in a retail store preferred; OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Licenses and Certifications None required, but knowledge of CPR or CPR Certification preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to sort items in accordance with established categories. Ability to determine the condition of items in accordance with established standards. Ability to operate a cash register. Ability to perform routine mathematical computations and count change. Knowledge of the principles and practices of basic mathematics. Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language. Ability to follow instructions and work independently. Knowledge of effective customer service techniques. Mental, Physical Abilities Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull heavy materials, supplies, and equipment frequently. Heavy mobility duties are usually performed by combinations of standing, walking, climbing ladders or steps, bending, reaching, or transporting merchandise on a frequent change basis relieved by fewer periods of sitting. Working Conditions Work is performed in a stock room, warehouse, or store environment where there are discomforts associated with changes in weather. There are occasional discomforts associated with noise, crowds, dust, lint, chemical odors, and the like.
