FSM seeks to maintain traditional forest uses through conservation easements: protecting environmental, cultural, and recreational values while sustaining the economic contributions of Maine's working forests.
Description
The Finance Associate reports directly to the Director of Finance and provides support to the Forest Society of Maine's financial management team. The Finance Associate will provide assistance with the organization's accounting and financial related needs. This position, consisting primarily of data entry and document scanning tasks, is part-time, offering no more than 20 hours per week.
Responsibilities
Post cash receipts, manage all backup documentation and bank deposit receipts; file paper and electronic copies upon completion
Generate accounts receivable invoices as needed, forward as necessary for distribution
Process general journal entries; generate associated reports
Obtain proper authorization and complete data entry of accounts payable invoices; file electronic and paper copies
Provide support with preparation of accounts payable check runs
Keep W-9 vendor files updated, and annually prepare Forms 1099 and 1096, file paper and electronic copies, distribute appropriately to vendors and the IRS
Maintain other aspects of financial database, plus other electronic and paper record-keeping systems as directed, includes periodic reconciliation of accounts receivable data
Assist with various additional tasks important to supporting FSM's overall financial operations as needed
Education
Minimum of a high school diploma with work experience in accounting and bookkeeping, or relevant associate degree
Desired Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in accounting database entry and Microsoft Office applications; QuickBooks experience a plus
Skill with handling sensitive and confidential information
Working knowledge of GAAP accounting practices
Ability to perform the job independently with proficiency, organization, and detail
Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
Flexibility and resourcefulness working in a small office environment
Enthusiasm for the mission of the Forest Society of Maine
Salary and Benefits
This is a permanent, part-time position with benefits. Benefits package includes retirement, health insurance, paid holidays, sick leave, and vacation time. The work will be based at the Forest Society of Maine's office in Bangor. The annual salary for this position is commensurate with experience and skills, and ranges between $20 to $27 per hour.
