Aquaculture Interactions Manager
Fisheries Management Scotland is the representative body for Scotlands District Salmon Fishery Boards and Fisheries Trusts. Our role is to promote and ensure the best fisheries management for the protection, preservation and development of Scotlands wild salmon and freshwater fish, along with their fisheries and environment on which they depend.
We are seeking an Aquaculture Interactions Manager to support Fisheries Management Scotlands members in efforts to manage interactions between farmed and wild salmonid fish, with the aim of protecting and restoring wild salmonid populations. This is a vital element of Fisheries Management Scotlands work, particularly in the context of declines in Scotlands Atlantic salmon and sea trout populations.
A key element of this role will be to develop and maintain professional engagement with the aquaculture industry to support the production of environmental management plans (or successor arrangements) and monitoring strategies to understand and address any local impacts on wild salmonid fish.
Current and anticipated future changes to the regulatory system present an opportunity to develop working arrangements which improve the situation for wild salmonids in the aquaculture zone. This focus on aquaculture interactions will complement efforts by Fisheries Management Scotland to address a wide range of pressures which Scotlands salmon sea trout and freshwater fish currently face. The post-holder will work with Fisheries Management Scotland members to support local engagement, refine monitoring protocols and to develop guidance and advice where required.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
Proven planning and organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise competing demands and a track record of successful delivery.
Excellent written and oral presentation skills.
Proven data and analytical skills.
Excellent interpersonal, networking and team working skills and experience of working successfully with external stakeholders.
Well-developed IT skills, including use of standard software packages (MS SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat)
Willingness to travel across Scotland.
Access to a motor vehicle and a full driving licence.
A good understanding of the fisheries management sector in Scotland, including familiarity with interactions between fisheries management and finfish aquaculture, would be an advantage.
