*Job Summary*
Assist the dentist in the examination and treatment of patients receiving oral health services under the direction of the dentist.
*Duties and Responsibilities *
As a Dental Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting the dentists and their support team with patient care and treatment during their scheduled appointments. In this position you will:
· Set up examination tray with required dental instruments for scheduled procedures.
· Assist dentist with related chair side treatment procedures and duties.
· Complete proper sterilization, biohazard and infection control procedures following protocols.
· Prepare patient records and take, develop and mount radiographs in preparation of scheduled appointments and doctor review.
· Stock supplies and maintain dental equipment to meet practice and manufacturer guidelines.
· Manage daily patient flow.
· Order supplies and track inventory to maintain appropriate supply inventory and utilize cost effective techniques.
· Other duties as needed to provide care for patients
*Required Skills and Abilities *
· familiarity with dental terminology
· familiarity with dental instruments and proper tray set up
· able to read dental records
· able to document in dental records
· able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and oral health care team
· capable of following established departmental procedures
· able to work efficiently and cope with emergency situations
· capable of using experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
· good computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office
· professional manner and appearance
· emotional and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position
*Education and Experience*
· Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED
· Current Dental Assistant Certification with the state of Texas
· A minimum of one year experience, X-Ray and Nitrous Certifications and related dental training preferred.
*Special Requirements*
The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. This position requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination; sitting, standing and walking for extensive periods of time; working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours; and frequent exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment. The Employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to work with a moderate noise level in the work environment is also required.
