Overview Peninsula Community Center, a ministry of Peninsula Covenant Church (PCC), builds community by providing personal, healthy and meaningful connection through aquatics, fitness, tennis and community programming. PCC is a vibrant and forward-thinking church located in Redwood City, dedicated to serving our community and making a positive impact through our outreach programs including our Community Center. Peninsula Covenant Churchs vision is "To empower generations to passionately follow Jesus one person at a time," PCC employs over 150 seasonal and part-time staff to support various community efforts. Principal Objective The Aquatics Coordinator provides leadership for aquatics staff and serves as the primary point of contact for daily operational needs. This role ensures the effective implementation of best practices in aquatics programming, promotes safety and excellence in all aquatic activities, and enhances the overall experience for members and guests. Principal Working Relationship This position works closely with the Aquatics Director, aquatics staff, swim instructors, lifeguards, coaches, and other Community Center staff. It also interacts with PCC members, guests, and families to ensure a welcoming, safe, and high-quality aquatics experience. Responsibilities Team Leadership & Supervision Assist the Aquatics Director in supervising aquatics staff, including swim instructors, coaches, and lifeguards. Support hiring, onboarding, and ongoing training of new team members. Ensure staff maintain current certifications and participate in required safety training. Provide leadership and problem-solving on the pool deck, addressing member concerns, facility needs, and scheduling challenges. Conduct staff evaluations and lead in-service trainings. Promote a culture of service excellence, teamwork, and accountability across all aquatics programs. Program Management Develop and manage staffing schedules as assigned. Assist in creating Swim School swimmer schedules and manage Swim School parent communication. Ensure lifeguard performance aligns with PCC policies, industry standards, and safety regulations. Coordinate private swim lessons including communication with instructors and families. Support communication and outreach efforts by drafting program updates, newsletters, and announcements. Assist with planning and execution of aquatics events including overseeing staffing and equipment needs for swim team events and Center family events (Family Fun Days, Island Days, etc). Monitor aquatics equipment and supply inventory, reporting needs to the Aquatics Director. Instruction & Coaching During the off season (September-April), teach 5 swim lessons a week. Coach up to 3 Masters workouts a week and 1-2 swim team groups. Ability to sub for any role in the Aquatics department including as a coach for youth swim team, Swim School instructor, private lesson instructor and lifeguard. Maintain a visible presence on the pool deck, ensuring safety, supporting coaches and instructors, and upholding facility rules. Experience / Education American Red Cross Lifeguard certification required. Minimum 3 years of experience as a swim instructor or swim coach. Preferred certifications include American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, American Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches, and USA Swim Coach Core Curriculum. Strong knowledge of water safety, swim instruction techniques, and coaching. Minimum age of 18 years or older. High school diploma or GED. Preferred: Associates or Bachelors degree or equivalent supervisory experience in aquatics. Physical Requirements Must be in the water and sun for extended periods. Must be able to perform all American Red Cross Lifeguard rescue skills, including but not limited to diving up to 12 feet, treading water for extended periods, CPR, rescue breathing, in-water spinal backboarding, and using an AED. Must be able to lift 30 pounds occasionally and 15-20 pounds frequently. DOJ background clearance required. Must adhere to and model PCCs Safe Church policies. #J-18808-Ljbffr
