Position Summary:
This position shall be responsible for ensuring health & safety regulatory compliance and continual improvement in occupational injury and illness performance in all of IP Corporation’s businesses and locations. Working in close cooperation with corporate and location personnel, this role will lead, improve, implement, sustain and participate in IP Corporation’s environment, health & safety (EHS) management system.
Education/Training Required:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, biology, chemistry or equivalent experience (Chem
10 year’s of OSHA compliance management.
Experience in developing and managing EHS Management Systems conformant with ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or Occupational Health.
Professional license or certification such as PE, CHMM, CSP, CIH or equivalent.
Experience developing and leading behavior-based safety programs.
Experience with AIChE Risk-Based Process Safety PSM Model implementation.
OSHA compliance management experience in a leadership position.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
This position will ensure compliance to all applicable regulations covering employee health & safety; including applicable OSHA regulations with a focus on PSM compliance, safe work processes, safety data sheet management, behavior-based safety programs and industrial hygiene.
Maintain a current working knowledge of and ensure compliance to all applicable local, state, and federal health & safety laws and regulations.
Act as a regulatory arm for OSHA compliance.
Develop, establish and maintain Corporate Health & Safety policies and procedures for safe work, including injury and illness prevention and improvement.
Provide leadership, strategy and initiatives necessary to appropriately manage health & safety risk for IP Corporation.
Develop systems and process for continual improvement in behavior-based safety and risk assessment with the goal of top tier industry safety performance.
Lead, assess, direct and train the organization as necessary to ensure compliance to OSHA §1910.119 (PSM).
Provide direction, analysis and guidance on major capital projects and process changes in the area of health & safety.
Prepare all sites to achieve “audit ready” status for OSHA inspections.
Develop, implement and participate in an internal audit system.
Report safety incidents to senior management. Oversee health & safety incident investigations and resulting CAPAs.
Take a hands-on approach to identify and correct issues to improve compliance, improve safety practices and increase behavior-based safety mindset throughout the organization.
General
Closely collaborate with senior management to ensure alignment in all key areas of responsibility.
Establish effective relationships with senior leaders, business managers and functional leaders across all operating segments of the Corporation, and with regulatory agencies with health & safety interests in IP Corporation’s facilities.
Mentor and coach Plant EHS Managers.
Manage assigned projects.
Perform calculations and analysis as required.
20% Travel as required to support the company goals and objectives.
Competencies Required:
Broad and deep experience and knowledge in managing OSHA compliance within a specialty chemicals business.
Sound judgement and application of risk management principles in determining Corporate priorities and initiatives.
Demonstrated experience and knowledge of regulatory compliance impacting the business.
Practical plant operations knowledge obtained as a hands-on participant.
Capability to build/maintain excellent relationships across the organization.
Excellent communications skills; ability to listen, summarize and concisely and effectively articulate a position with the ability to convince and influence.
