Pharmacy Technician The Pharmacy Technician, under the Pharmacist's supervision and according to established policies and procedures, assists with the medication distribution system. Essential job functions include filling new medication orders and cassettes, assisting in the reconciliation of missing orders and doses, delivering and retrieving medications to and from patient care areas, and maintaining patient transfers, discharges, and medication returns to their proper locations. The role also involves restocking automated dispensing cabinets, operating and maintaining robots for first doses and cart-fill process, and ensuring adequate inventory levels. Additionally, the technician is required to prepare IV medications and parenteral nutrition, manage clean room environments, and follow quality assurance protocols. The position requires strong organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice. Required qualifications include a high school diploma, GED, or higher level of education, and the ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience. Preferred qualifications include pharmacy technician certification and one year prior hospital pharmacy technician experience. License, certification, and clearances are also required. This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but serves as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department. Incumbents will be scheduled based on operational need, and travel may be expected locally between Independence Health locations.
