Description The Optometrist will perform routine procedures using independent professional judgment in the practice of optometry within the scope of the laws of the state of California, the rules and regulations of the California Board of Optometry, and the policies of Elica Health Centers. What you will do: Examine eyes, using observation, instruments, and pharmaceutical agents, to determine visual acuity and perception, focus and coordination and to diagnose ocular diseases and other ocular abnormalities. This includes conducting and documenting history, measuring refractive error, conducting visual and confrontational fields, pupil testing, ocular mobility testing, slit lamp examination, direct and indirect ophthalmoscopy, gonioscopy, tear function testing, and performing fundoscopic examination, particularly for diabetic patients. Prescribe eyeglasses, evaluate contact lenses, and prescribe therapeutic procedures to correct or conserve vision. Interpret data from clinical exams, analyze test results, and develop treatment plans. Perform other related duties such as completing school forms, Department of Motor Vehicle, and other similar documents. Partner with Operations to train the Clinic Staff to perform screening and other functions as appropriate. Work with other medical providers to see patients with acute or urgent ocular concerns, to the extent possible. Educate and counsel patients on contact lens care, visual hygiene, lighting arrangements, and safety factors. Maintain current knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to safe work practices. Follow all safety procedures and report or resolve unsafe conditions to ensure an injury-free work environment. Use appropriate ergonomic measures to reduce the risk of work-related injuries. Ensure adherence to infection control procedures in the clinic, including bloodborne pathogen protocols. Requirements Meet and maintain all criteria for Physician Credentialing, including the following: Graduation from an accredited school of optometry, Doctor of Optometry degree. Valid Optometry license in good standing in the state of California required. Glaucoma certification is strongly desired. Active BLS training certificate. At least 1-2 years of experience working with underserved, low-income persons or homeless persons preferred. A strong commitment to serve medically underserved families. You must be able to: Communicate directly, forthrightly, and timely with clear expectations. Demonstrate effective oral and written communication. Give and receive constructive feedback while holding oneself and others accountable. Exercise good judgment in clinical decision-making and client care. Organize work effectively and pay attention to detail. Use a computer for word processing, data entry, and email. Operate modern office equipment. Speaking and understanding another language is highly desirable. Write concise reports. In addition: Maintain adequate physical and mental health status to demonstrate professional and ethical competence in providing high-quality medical care to Center clients. Possess knowledge of evidence-based approaches to optical care. Perform eye examinations on children and adults. Maintain quality control standards. Interpret, adapt, and apply treatment protocols, guidelines, and procedures. Maintain professional behavior with all levels of colleagues, staff, clients, and the public, including refraining from negative comments about peers in public and in medical records, resolving conflict with peers and staff in a private setting in a timely manner, and demonstrating courtesy and respect to all staff. Accept and be receptive to audit feedback and other types of clinical review. Understand client needs as consumers of healthcare and focus service around those needs. Maintain records and files accurately. Have a thorough understanding of the company’s policies and procedures pertaining to compliance with the HIPAA Privacy Rule. Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams of Providers and Staff. Attend scheduled Provider meetings.
