Position Title:Deli Clerk

Accountable to:Deli Manager

Job Overview:

Provides direct, prompt, efficient and friendly customer service. Interacts with customers for their immediate selection of various fresh meats, cheeses, salads and hot foods from the deli department.Handles food in a safe manner and ensures the work area is always clean and neat.

Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

• Provides prompt, efficient andfriendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience inall customer interactions and treating customers as the most importantpeople in the store.
• Smiles and greets customers ina friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee'sdesignated department or elsewhere in the store.
• Answers the departmenttelephone promptly when called upon, and provides friendly, helpfulservice to customers who call.
• Takes customer orders at thedeli counter, slices product for customer service and weigh, date, price,label and wrap all product.
• Reviews orders for the day andprocesses accordingly.
• Understands and practicesproper sanitation procedures and ensures the work area is always clean andneat.
• Reviews the status andappearance of the food for freshness.
• Monitors temperatures of allhot and cold units for proper holding procedures.
• Anticipates product needs forthe department on a daily basis.
• Prepares, finishes, andreplenishes product as necessary.
• Checks in product, puts productaway, and may review invoices.
• Responsible for properinventory control (pricing, stocking, ordering).
• Ensures that all food ishandled in accordance with local health department regulations, monitorsproduct quality. Stores product and ensures proper refrigeration.
• Clean all equipment in the Delidepartment on a daily basis.
• Breaks down department andperforms cleaning duties, follows all safety, sanitation and food handlingregulation.
• Performs other job-relatedduties and special projects as required.
• Follows all store anddepartment policies and procedures

Job Requirements:

• Lifting Requirement up to 60lbs., equipment operation (scanner, register, scale, check approvalmachine, coupon machine, intercom), reaching, standing, stooping/bending,turning, pushing/pulling 500 to 1500 lbs., equipment operation (palletjack, highboy cart, tongs).
• Must be able to solvearithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals and percentages.
• Must be able to understand andfollow verbal or demonstrated instructions; request supplies orally or inwriting.
• Must have the ability to handlerefrigerated and frozen levels of temperature when retrieving product fromfreezer
• Must be able to participate inthe preparation of salads, sandwiches, fried chicken, fish, etc.
• Must be able to safely operatea slicer and fryer for the production of sliced meats and cheeses andfried foods.
• Must be able to work shifts varyingin length and times, including nights, weekends and holidays.
