Senior Transmission Planning Engineer

Join this leading organization in the energy sector, committed to providing reliable and sustainable electric solutions to the communities. They are currently seeking a Senior Engineer specializing in Transmission System Planning to join their team. This role involves providing expertise in transmission system impact studies and developing solutions for integrating Distributed Energy Resources into the company’s electric system. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical engineering, with experience in modelling, analysis, and planning of transmission lines and substation facilities. This position offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on the reliability and sustainability of the company’s electric infrastructure.
Key responsibilities for this role will include (but are not limited to):
Develop and maintain transmission system models for studies, incorporating forecast loads and electric system parameters.
Independently conduct DER transmission system impact studies across our service territories.
Collaborate with various internal teams and external stakeholders to assess system impacts and propose solutions.
Document and present study results to relevant parties, including regulatory agencies and DER customers.
Undertake supporting tasks such as process automation, training development, and mentoring junior engineers.
Be available for emergency assignments during adverse weather conditions or system challenges.
Required and desired skillsets, experience, and qualifications for this role:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, preferably with a focus on Electric Power Systems. Advanced degree preferred.
5+ years of relevant experience in planning, design, and/or operations related to transmission lines and substation facilities.
Professional Engineer’s License preferred.
Proficiency in power system transmission analysis tools such as PSSE, TARA, ASPEN, or similar software.
Familiarity with programming languages, particularly Python.
Knowledge of emerging technologies including photovoltaic solar, electric vehicles, and battery storage.
Understanding of electrical theory as applied to power supply system planning.
Awareness of National, State, and other planning standards and reliability criteria.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and develop strategic partnerships.
Ability to utilize Excel spreadsheets, create Excel trackers, and be able to use Word and Powerpoint for reporting/presentations via teams or in person.
