Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Nutrition Supervisor the Clinical Dietitian functions coordinates all phases of nutritional care including nutrition assessment, care planning, monitoring, education and counseling of hospitalized patients. Performs duties in support of and in compliance with performance improvement plans, JCAHO, and other licensing, accrediting, and regulatory agencies. Employee will recognize the population specific needs of all patients and apply the appropriate knowledge, skills and behaviors to meet those needs when performing patient nutritional activities.

  • Consults with physician and other health care personnel to determine nutritional needs and diet restrictions of patients while functioning effectively as an interdisciplinary team member.
  • Identify and provide age-specific nutrition counseling to meet the cultural needs of the patients and their families in nutritional principles, dietary plans, food selection, and preparation.
  • Follows patient and employee safety/security policies and protocols, including hand hygiene, use of universal precautions, use of personal protective equipment, and adherence to isolation procedures.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Bachelors degree in related field required
  • Clinical experience in an acute care setting with predominant adult and geriatric population preferred.
  • Registration through the American Dietetic Association as RD or RDE required.
  • Licensure through the Texas State Board of Examiners of Dietitians required.
