Job Summary & Requirements

Job Summary:

Plans, directs, and implements organizations environmental and safety programs to ensure safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment, as well as other training programs by performing the following duties personally or through department supervisors.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrates the behaviors of punctuality, regular attendance, professionalism towards supervisors and co-workers, and self-directed task completion.
  • Maintains clean work area.
  • Must comply with all departmental SOP's (Standard Operating Procedures), company GMP's (Good Manufacturing Practices), Employee Handbook Policies, including attendance, and all safety rules and standards.
  • Works normal shift hours and overtime as required.
  • Coordinates efforts as part of the team to provide assistance to all co-workers in all departments to maximize production efficiencies as needed.
  • Plans, implements and monitors safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
  • Plans and implements programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, policies, etc.
  • Performs and maintains the training and re-training requirements and schedule for both safety and other topics.
  • Inspects organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Provides information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.
  • Investigates accidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
  • Responsible for handling all work comp claims.
  • Enforces use of safety equipment.
  • Leads and directs the Plant Safety Committees.
  • Represents the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs.
  • Develops other training programs including day-one orientation for new hires, equipment training programs, perpetual training, etc.
  • Maintains safety files, records and training logs.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Environmental Health and Safety from four-year College or university, and a minimum of 2 years' experience; or equivalent education, training or experience.

Physical Requirements:

Regularly required to stand and reach with hands and arms.

Frequently required to walk; stoop, kneel, crouch and talk or hear.

Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, dust, chemicals and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
