With an unmatched scope of programs, the American Kidney Fund directly supports patients and caregivers wherever they are in the fight against the disease, from prevention to post-transplant living. As Senior Director of Clinical Education, reporting to the Vice President of Patient Support and Education, you will bring specialized clinical expertise to support AKF staff day-to-day, lead research initiatives, drive our clinical education program, and represent AKF’s position on scientific and medical issues. You will also own the implementation of our most consequential and innovative program, the Unknown Causes of Kidney Disease (UCKD) Project. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with some of the brightest minds in nephrology and make a tangible difference in the lives of patients and their families. How You’ll Make an Impact AKF is one of the fastest-growing patient advocacy nonprofits in the kidney space, and your expertise will be instrumental in propelling our mission forward. Proactively review new research, guidelines, clinical trials, and approved treatments related to nephrology and related comorbidities, providing senior leadership with regular updates. Assist the Office of Communications and Marketing with written responses to medical questions from the media and serve as a direct resource when appropriate. Participate in meetings with corporate and foundation partners, as appropriate, providing insight into proposal development. In collaboration with the VP of Patient Support and Education, oversee all aspects of the Clinical Scientist in Nephrology (CSN) Program, annually updating the CSN application and leading interactions with candidates and alumni. Advise the VP of Patient Support and Education on complicated patient cases related to charitable assistance eligibility (for example, delayed graft function, acute kidney injury, etc.). Prepare written and verbal reports, analyses, position papers, recommendations, and talking points for the CEO, VP, CMO, Board of Trustees, corporate sponsors, prospective funders, etc., as needed. Actively participate in related Board Committee meetings and assist with agenda development for MAC and Kidney Disease Prevention, Education and Outreach (KDPEO). In conjunction with the Director of Public Policy, contribute to AKF policy positions on CMS regulations as they pertain to quality of care and clinical guidelines. Complete special projects and assignments as requested by the VP. Research Endeavors Assist in planning and evaluation of AKF’s proprietary patient data, including data collected through AKF’s Grants Management System (GMS). Lead medical aspects of health data collection and reporting within AKF’s GMS, working with the VP of Patient Support and Education, CMO, and the Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships and Education to strategically analyze the data on at least an annual basis. In collaboration with the Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships and Education, oversee the creation, administration, and evaluation of surveys aimed at both lay and professional audiences. Serve as author/and or co-author on poster abstracts and oral presentation abstracts at professional conferences. Represent AKF at these meetings when abstracts are accepted.
