Job Description

Reports to the Vice President, Engineering A leadership position focusing on continuous process improvement, process development, and quality within the Engineering organization. Where improvements impact deliverables or customer processes, the person will be required to coordinate and facilitate the smooth execution of the changes across functional organizations. This position will be a lead Point of Contact to resolve Engineering process gaps, execute and review root cause analyzes to identify process and quality issues, resolve complex process problems/inconsistencies, and develop and implement Engineering policy. Responsible for briefing state of Engineering quality, both externally and internally, to all levels of leadership. The position will lead strategic and tactical approaches to ensure optimal process efficiencies are in place to produce quality work while meeting schedule commitments. Provide leadership in support of the Engineering Team’s quality assurance program by working independently and as part of the team to remove obstacles that are preventing the organization from meeting quality goals. Develop weekly reporting, monitor action items, and support the organization to ensure procedure compliance and quality goals are met. Manage Engineering processes in support of quality, schedule, and cost performance goals being achieved on all programs. Facilitate communication between D40, D86, and D87 to ensure both departments are successful in the functional and detail design process. Determine training needs derived from quality metrics and work with departments to establish training budgets. Required/Preferred Education/Training

Bachelor’s or Associates Degree in a business or technical field; and/or 10 years of experience (Minimum) / 15 Years of experience (Preferred) in Shipbuilding, Design, or Engineering. Lean Green Belt / Six Sigma trained (preferred). Graduate of BIW's Apprenticeship / Development Program(s), or Engineering Development Program (EDP), or equivalent (preferred). Required/Preferred Experience

Excellent written and oral communication skills required. Solid understanding of design processes, CAD design, and Engineering preferred. Understanding of planning processes preferred. Demonstrated expertise and effectiveness with Microsoft Office products. Project Management experience with an understanding of Configuration Management. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment (Facilitation experience required). Demonstrated ability to work multiple priorities and resolve complex issues with minimal direction. Highly self-motivated, strong attention to detail, and demonstrated ability to take the initiative when required.
