Reports to:NSAH Senior Shift Manager

Compensation:Base Pay is $53,000 (A $2,000 bilingual pay differential is provided for candidates fluent in both English and Spanish. )

Schedule:Tuesday through Saturday 3p.m.-11p.m.EST

As a key member of RAINN's Victim Services management team, the NSAH shift manager will be responsible for ensuring high quality services to users of the National Sexual Assault Hotline (online and telephone) and will support the day-to day operations of the NSAH.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Direct Service Quality Assurance

  • Provide oversight of morning NSAH shifts, ensuring high-quality service delivery.
  • Monitor hotline sessions (telephone and online) and offer support and guidance to staff as needed.
  • Work with and mentor staffers to enhance their skills and effectiveness.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule and serve as emergency backup for hotline service delivery.
  • Submit end-of-shift reports summarizing activities and outcomes.
  • Demonstrate specialized hotline knowledge and sexual assault service skills.
  • Provide assistance to individuals in specialized communities affected by sexual violence.
  • Offer direct support to hotline callers and staff, adhering to RAINN's direct service and supervision policies.
  • Triage and manage mandatory reports on-shift or on-call.
Manage Support Specialist Team
  • Supervise and guide a team of 5-10 support specialists as a shift manager.
  • Conduct monthly check-ins with staff to provide feedback and support their development.
  • Provide training support to employees on assigned shifts, ensuring they are equipped to perform their duties effectively.
  • Offer regular guidance and support to staff members as needed.
  • Handle disciplinary actions when necessary, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and protocols.
  • Evaluate and conduct ongoing performance evaluations for team members.
  • Maintain attendance, holiday, and training status trackers for staff.
Support Overall NSAH Operations
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to employee complaints and inquiries, fostering a positive work environment.
  • Ensure that the work culture and employee behaviors align with RAINN and NSAH staff handbooks and policies.
  • Promptly escalate concerns and policy violations regarding workplace behavior and service quality to senior shift managers and the program manager.
  • Utilize critical thinking skills and RAINN policies to make independent, real-time decisions related to staff and service issues.
  • Attend NSAH program meetings to share insights on shift trends, staff performance, and policy updates.
  • Facilitate in-service meetings as needed to disseminate important information and training.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of RAINN's and contractual policies and protocols, providing feedback to senior management for continuous improvement.
  • Offer input to senior shift managers and the program manager on additional training topics or suggested revisions to training materials.
  • Support senior management in ensuring the hotline is adequately staffed at all times.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Fulfill any additional responsibilities related to the position functions as assigned by management.
Position Specifications/Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required:

Required Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of experience working or volunteering with crisis intervention services.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English is preferred (written and spoken).
  • 2+ years of experience managing paid and unpaid staff (experience managing employees who work in shifts preferred).
  • Effective communication skills in person-to-person and small group situations with visitors, the general public, and team members.
  • Proficiency in technology use.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and handle shifting priorities.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to navigate a wide range of situations.
  • Capacity to interpret various instructions, both written and oral.
  • Good judgment in complex decision-making.
  • Positive and energetic attitude, capable of working independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work a non-traditional schedule, including occasional evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Comfort discussing issues surrounding sexual violence.
  • Ability to address difficult staffing situations and remediation.
  • Completion and passing of a criminal background check administered by RAINN.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Veterans will be given priority.

RAINN Office Status: This position is based in Washington, DC. Please note that RAINN staff are temporarily working remotely. We will be going back into the office. Please note that we are exploring a potential hybrid work model, which may require occasional office and remote work to support our collaborative efforts in 2024. Only overnight shifts have been considered for remote work.
