Lake Station Community Schools is seeking **Custodial/Janitoral staff persons** to be assigned to Edison Junior Senior High School or another of its schools.

Wage: $13.65 / hour minimum starting pay (higher depending on experience & training)

Benefits: Regular full-time employee (40 hours per week Monday through Friday 8 hours per shift). Health Insurance (medical, dental, vision), Life Insurance, PERF retirement, deferred comp, paid-time off, paid holidays.

Schedule: Works weekdays Monday through Friday afternoon shifts (between 2:30 pm to 11:00 pm); may work [~220-230 days per school year]; other shifts and days may be available or assigned as needed.

**SUMMARY:** Ensure a clean, sanitary, orderly and safe facility. Assist in maintaining school buildings and school grounds to include lawn maintenance and snow removal.

- EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

- LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.

- MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

- REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

- OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to operate all custodial cleaning equipment, particularly floor care equipment; ability to work on ladders; ability to relate well to other employees, students, parents and community members.

The building principal, supervisor or designee shall make daily work assignments for custodial personnel. These assignments shall not be limited to an employees specific skill.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:** Custodial/Janitorial personnel are directly responsible to their building principal, for the following duties and any other duties may be assigned:

- Act in a manner that reflects the standards of the School Board and community.

- Be knowledgeable; good will ambassador for the school corporation.

- Look professional and neat.

- Comply with Board policy and the directives of supervisors.

- Reporting promptly to the principal and Director of Maintenance any condition that might be unsafe.

- Opening and closing the building as directed.

- Being on duty the regular hours assigned and when called upon for school events outside school hours, unless excused by the school principal.

- Reporting to the principal any injuries of students or others while on school property; reporting to the principal any damage to the building, equipment, grounds or other property of the school corporation.

- Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing and vacuuming hallways, stairs, classrooms and office space.

- Moving furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal.

- Complying with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.

- It is understood that no employee has the prerogative of using or soliciting outside assistance in fulfilling his or her job responsibilities.

- Follow general cleaning guidelines:

- CLASSROOMS: Sweep rooms, clean, sanatize, and disinfect desktops and backs, wash whiteboard, dust window ledges, dust all shelves, replace burned out lights, fix desk problems or any other job that needs done.

- BATHROOMS: Mop, clean, sanitize, and disinfect the floors, urinals and stools, sinks, mirrors, wash walls in front of urinals and behind sinks, clean any graffiti off stall walls, replace burned out lights, replace toilet paper, replace hand towels, make sure toilet paper dispensers are in working condition, check and fill soap receptacles and reservoir and other jobs that need done.

- HALLS: Wash lockers, sweep and mop, clean cobwebs from lockers and ceiling tiles, wash windows or any other job that needs to be done.

- OFFICES: Vacuum, dust all areas, mop washrooms, clean sinks, wash windows, clean sinks, check for hand towels and toilet paper or any other jobs that need done.

- SHOPS: Sweep all floors, wash windows, dust in office areas and vacuum, check for soap and toweling, clean walls or any other jobs that need to be done.

- OPEN AREA, COMMONS, LIBRARY, CARPETED HALLWAYS: Vacuum daily, dust all appropriate areas, clean pencil, pen, and marker from walls where needed, clean carpet and remove gum regularly.

- GYM AREA: Keep gym and tile floors clean, sweep out bleachers as needed, wash bleachers when needed, clean and sanitize all locker rooms and bathrooms, dust, vacuum, and wash athletic directors office, coaches office, and varsity room daily.

- GENERAL DUTIES: Scrub halls, assist in cleaning and reorganizing the cafeteria after a school event. The auditorium, light booth, and back stage areas need to be kept clean at all times. Make sure mop heads are washed regularly. Make sure vacuum cleaners are cleaned out regularly and brushes replaced. Make sure all equipment is kept working efficiently, and kept clean. Keep all glass clean. The cafeteria needs to be cleaned each day after each meal period. After the last lunch, wash the walls as needed and always sweep and mop the floor. Assist with cleaning each table and chairs. Make sure garbage cans are cleaned. Clean up bodily fluids as required.
