The Opportunity

Vermilion Energy has an exciting opportunity within the US Business Unit, seeking a Sr. HSE & Sustainability Advisor. Based in our Field Office near Gillette, Wyoming within the Powder River Basin, this role will report directly to the Managing Director, US Business Unit and be an integral part of the US Business Unit. This is an exciting opportunity to partner with all levels of Vermilions US based team members and contractors to provide exceptional outcomes that deliver on the organization's commitment to HSE and Sustainability. The successful candidate will join a team that values its people and provides work with purpose.

This position is a full time benefit eligible position that will work Monday through Friday with some weekend work as needed. The anticipated travel for this position would be monthly to our downtown Denver office. Although minimal, some international travel will be required to proactively coordinate with the Manager - HSE & Sustainability, North America as well as the Corporate HSE team in Calgary.

What you will do

HSE:
  • Maintain a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace
  • Lead HSE efforts for the US Business Unit, in collaboration with the Manager - HSE & Sustainability, North Americal
  • Facilitate the application of our HSE Management System
  • Facilitate top quartile HSE performance through achievement of KPIs and implementation of a comprehensive annual HSE plan
  • Ensure that USBU risks are evaluated and mitigated in alignmen with the Corporate Operational Risk Management Standard
  • Ensure that USBU events (incidents, near misses, hazards) are investigated and managed in alignment with the Corporate Event Management Standard (EM2.1)
  • Facilitate USBU compliance with the Corporate Contactor Management Standard
  • Responsible for ensuring the USBU's Emergency Response Plan (ERP) is current, aligned with the Corporate ERP and ready for deployment when needed
  • Ensures that appropriate HSE education is conducted by running HSE Induction programs for staff and Contractors
  • Facilitate the HSE training and development program internally and externally
  • Facilitate and coordinate HSE Meetings
  • Conduct HSE site visit inspections and contractor observations
  • Facilitate audits in alignment with the HSE Management System
  • Facilitate application of Corporate and North America HSE Initiatives
Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure knowledge of and compliance with relevant OSHA and reference standard requirements
  • Ensure staff understanding of compliance requirements
  • Drive and implement regulatory requirements to ensure successful compliance
  • Actively monitor and track HSE performance to ensure compliance
Sustainability:
  • Facilitate the USBU internal sustainability reporting programs
  • Complete the quantification of emissions associated with our activities annually
  • Facilitate quantification of sustainability impacts of projects
  • Collect and report other sustainability information (e.g. water, waste) as required annually
Administrative/Reporting:
  • Responsible for monthly and quarterly reporting of HSE data to Management and Corporate
  • Facilitate Event Management Standard timeline compliance as a member of the Field Leadership Team
  • Facilitate reporting to certain government authorities (e.g. OSHA, WOGCC)
Cost Control:
  • Contribute to the management of HSE related annual Opex and maintenance Capital expenditures
  • Identify cost saving opportunities within responsible field of work.
Leadership:
  • Partner with Leadership within the US Business Unit to drive HSE compliance, ensuring employee safety and HSE outcomes
  • Collaborate with other HSE groups across the organization to support generating enhanced value for our US operations
What you will bring
  • 10+ years industry in the operational HSE aspects of the oil and gas industry.
  • Experience within the US and specifically the Powder River Basin, preferred.
  • Excellent working knowledge of industry regulations, standards and practices relevant to US operations
  • Able to deal with multiple tasks which may be regular or complex;
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Possess the ability to work with all levels of the organization and to communicate HSE requirements in a positive manner to all field personnel
  • Highly organized, results oriented, not afraid to take initiative and have a willingness to learn
  • Good interpersonal communication skills and the ability to clearly present ideas in both formal and informal settings
  • Highly proficient with industry standard software applications
  • Bachelor of Science in a related field of study
