**Job Description:**

Reporting to Area Superintendent, assist with the management of projects and crews engaged in construction of highways, roads, pipelines, or other construction projects in various types of NCDOT, municipality and private projects in the assigned area.

**Job Duties & Responsibilities:**

* Confers with supervisory and engineering personnel, and inspectors and suppliers of tools and materials to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.

* Must be able to communicate with inspectors and project owners to schedule and facilitate a safe work place while performing daily supervision of personnel and equipment.

* Inspects work in progress to ensure that work conforms to specifications and that construction schedules are adhered to.

* Must be able to conduct safety huddle and tool box safety meetings with the crew. May direct workers concerned with major maintenance or recondition projects for existing installations.

* Responsible and accountable for the implementation of environmental, health, and safety regulations/policies (governmental and company).

* Must meet the Barnhill Contracting Company Driver Qualification Standards.

* The job duties described herein are not exhaustive and may be supplemented.

* Work with Division manager to facilitate company and division goals. Maintain open dialogue.

* Team with estimator/project managers to insure job profitability and success.

**Minimum Qualifications & Training:**

3 years or more of experience in paving or grading operations including NCDOT Roadway, military and private projects or combination of experience and education.

Ability to abide by and to communicate precise instructions.

Have knowledge in the construction field and safety regulations that are associated with these operations.

Must be a reliable/trust worthy team player.

Maintain a good attendance and safety record.

Must have the ability and experience to operate various types of paving equipment such as pavers, transfer machines, rollers which is an asset to this position.

Must have the ability to understand grades and types of asphalt mixes and to figure asphalt pulls and order the correct quantities and the number of trucks necessary for the project in a timely manner.

Must also have the ability to lead

**Tasks Essential to Job Functions:**

Standing and walking required.

Ability to work long periods of time while sitting or traveling.

Ability to manage everyday operations and instruct of safety sensitive issues.

Must be able to complete all required paper work which may require the use of a calculator or computer.

Visual activity - ability to work with maps, plans and traffic control plans.

Overtime is often required.

Exposed to extremes of hot or cold weather.
