About the Company: CFT (Carolina Farm Trust) strives to employ the local community, create healthy & organic foods/pastries, while outsourcing from local farmers. As the Intern, you will have the opportunity to work closely with skilled pastry chefs, gaining hands-on experience in a fast-paced bakery/kitchen environment. This internship is designed to provide you with realistic and valuable experience, skills, and knowledge, while giving you greater opportunities within the Pastry Arts industry.
Responsibilities: Assist Executive Pastry Chef, and team, in the preparation and production of pastries, desserts, and baked goods. Follow established recipes, properly scale, portion control, and quality standards to ensure consistency and excellence in production presentation. Collaborate with the pastry team in new recipes and menu items.
Learn various techniques including: Dough Preparation, Baking, Decorating, and Plating Presentations. Participate in production, including: mixing, shaping, proofing, and finishing desserts. Maintain a clean and tidy work area, including proper FIFO standards. Checking the quality of the ingredients. Arranging food and ensuring an appealing presentation. Assisting in Banquet & Catering Operations/Events. Ensuring efficient/timely execution and presentation. Manage food storage, stock, and ingredients. Time management, communication, and organizational skills to review daily production needs and plan daily as a team. Ability to perform effectively under conditions of fluctuating workload, multitask, and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Qualifications: Passion for pastry and willingness to learn new techniques. Basic knowledge and understanding of pastry techniques. Attention to detail during production and finishing of pastries/desserts. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Being able to work effectively with the team. Willingness to take direction and learn from the Executive Pastry Chef and team. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices, including proper handling, storage, and hygiene in a pastry kitchen. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays concerning the needs of the business. Physical stamina and ability to lift, stand, and move heavy objects in a kitchen environment.
