Job Description

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Employee will perform work requiring a intermediate degree of skill and assist other linemen in the construction, repair and maintenance of electric distribution and transmission lines.

GENERAL DUTIES

The normal duties may include but are not limited to:
  1. Employee will be knowledgeable of and follow all safety rules, procedures and practices.
  2. Employee acting in conjunction with supervision or individually as directed by supervision will assist and/or direct the training of other employees in the correct operating procedures necessary to fully satisfy the classification duties of Line Technician "B" and all lower classifications within the subject line of progression or other duties with which the employee is familiar.
  3. Employee will, when directed by supervision, report to assigned locations for the purpose of receiving training and will actively participate in the training activities.
  4. Employee will exhibit an adequate competency level pertaining to activities delineated in the Duties and Qualifications sections of this job classification. Demonstrate such competency via performance of job duties and training and testing programs administered at intervals prescribed by Bowlin Group to assure correct classification of employees.
  5. Employee will, during the normal performance of his duties, watch for and promptly report to supervision any damaged or defective equipment or conditions which may cause damage or injury.
  6. Employee will perform duties of lower or higher classifications that are incidental to the job and are within his/her capabilities including those needed for the purpose of training in the requirements of the higher classifications.
  7. Employee will keep all equipment, tools, materials and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  8. Employee will report as directed to any facility for any shift where needed.
  9. Employee will perform work in a responsible and cooperative manner to facilitate a positive working environment.
  10. Employee will represent the Company to the community with attention to the highest standard of conduct, appearance and attitude.
SPECIFIC DUTIES

Duties that may include, but are not limited to:
  1. Employee will perform all the duties of a Line Technician "C".
  2. Employee will climb all poles, towers, and other structures.
  3. Employee will perform and assist other linemen in the setting up and operation of wire stringing equipment, which shall include the installation and removal of stringing blocks, sheaves, etc., for all types of conductors and configurations used on the system.
  4. Employee will perform and assist other linemen in the relocation and rearrangement of conductors, buss work and other energized connections to provide adequate clearances for the installation of new conductors or devices.
  5. Employee will perform and assist other linemen in the installation and removal of line-hose, blankets and other rubber goods used for cover-up work on energized conductors.
  6. Employee will develop a working knowledge of blueprint reading, pertaining to line construction or removal.
  7. Employee will install, remove and maintain cross arms, braces, pins, insulators, secondary racks, brackets, guys, grounds, ground wire and associated line hardware.
  8. Employee will perform his duties from aerial lifts, derricks, poles, towers and other elevated structures.
  9. Employee will perform and assist other linemen in the termination of the primary and secondary conductors used in the transformation of voltages used within the distribution system.
  10. Employee will work with energized conductors and equipment.
  11. Employee will transmit and relay messages and instructions via two-way radio.
  12. Employee will perform and assist other linemen in the installation and removal of conductors which shall include "tying in", "clipping in" or clamping in conductors using tie wires, suspension and support clamps, armor rods and also the installation of dampers and other such devices and removal of same.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENTRY INTO:

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Employee must meet all general qualifications of employment.
  2. Employee must be able to speak, understand, read and write English, and be able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  3. Employee must be able to learn to use the tools and equipment required in the work.
  4. Employee must be thoroughly familiar with the Company Safety Rules and willingly see that they are enforced.
  5. Employee must have a valid state driver's license and pass the Transportation Department's driver's test for operating Company vehicles, including those with manual transmissions.
  6. Employee must be willing to work inside and outside under varying weather conditions.
  7. Employee must be willing to report as directed to any facility for any shift where needed.
  8. Employee must be in good health and be able to perform the physical requirements of the job, which include work at heights and heavy manual labor.
  9. Employee must possess the willingness and ability to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to advance to higher classifications.
  10. Employee must be willing and able to communicate through both verbal and written reports.
  11. Employee must be able to learn to make and read simple drawings and sketches.
  12. Employee must have demonstrated ability to carry through work assignments, and conduct himself/herself in a manner that encourages cooperation and satisfactory work from others assigned to work with him/her.
  13. Employee must have demonstrated proficiency in the ability to perform the duties associated with the lower classification(s) within the line of progression.
  14. Employee must be able to lead, direct, and train other employees assigned to work with him/her to obtain satisfactory work results.
SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Employee must meet and be proficient in all the qualifications of Line Technician "C".
  2. Employee must have at least twelve (12)months experience as a Line Technician "C" or the equivalent and successfully completed all training and testing programs required in that classification.
  3. Employee must be able to identify, by visual observation, characteristics of construction and equipment used, and the various voltage levels used on the system.
  4. Employee must have general knowledge of the character and layout of the electrical distribution circuits on a system.
  5. Employee must be able to distinguish between energized and de-energized conductors.
  6. Employee must be able to perform duties from aerial lifts, derricks, poles, towers and other elevated structures.

  • Pay is competitive and depends on experience.
