POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing general accounting operations, specifically those related to the general ledger. The position will prepare and record asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing account information. The Senior Accountant will ensure the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions. The Senior Accountant's responsibilities also include ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all of the agency’s accounting tasks. This position will report to the Financial Analyst.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES In conjunction with the Financial Analyst, implement and maintain a system of internal controls and security over all financial transactions and agency assets. Follow standard accounting practices and procedures. Assist with the month- and year-end closing processes. Maintain the month-end fiscal close calendar and work with other fiscal department team members to ensure that deadlines are met and monthly financials are produced on schedule. Facilitate audits conducted by funders. Collaborating with the Leadership Team to create annual budgets and forecasts. Support annual financial and Single audit preparation and assist with coordinating the audit process. Complete bank reconciliations monthly, resolving all discrepancies, and ensuring the bank and book balances reconcile. Ensure payroll journal entries are recorded after each payroll and that they are recorded in accordance with the approved cost allocation plan. Identify, investigate, and correct allocation errors. Complete other journal entries as needed. Complete entry of account receivable invoices. Ensure payments are applied correctly to AR and variances are investigated and addressed. Review expense and revenue coding for completeness, accuracy and compliance with GAAP. Maintain the chart of accounts. Responsible for recording the cost of newly acquired fixed assets (both tangible and intangible), tracking existing fixed assets, recording depreciation, and accounting for the disposition of fixed assets. Maintain depreciation, fixed asset, and amortization schedule. Complete inventory reconciliation annually. Conduct regular reconciliations with the Development departments of private funding and contributions. Maintain subsidiary ledgers and perform monthly reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts. Participates in preliminary analysis of financial reports in conjunction with the Leadership Team

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and or ability required.

Applicants for the position of Senior Accountant shall possess a B.A. in accounting, finance, business, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher education. At least 3 years of professional accounting or fiscal experience in finance or a related field is preferred. Experience in the non-profit/social service sector is also a plus. Ability to work cooperatively with staff, CRCL, and funding agencies. Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel. Experience using accounting/financial software Experience working with external auditors and leading independent audits. Strong attention to detail and effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
