Job Title: Substitute Custodian Division: Maintenance Reports To: Principal FLSA Status: Non-exempt SUMMARY Performs manual work keeping the school building and school offices in clean and orderly condition and tends furnace, air conditioner, and boiler to provide heat, cool air, and hot water for employees or students by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Sweeps, mops, scrubs, wax, dust and vacuums assigned area(s). Scrubs and disinfects toilet doors daily and cleans drinking fountains, urinals, toilet bows, and other fixtures daily using such materials as will keep them in a clean and sanitary condition. Wash windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year. To be on duty when events are scheduled outside of the regular school hours (if requested). Empties trash and garbage containers. Maintains building, performing minor and routine painting and other related maintenance activities. Replaces air conditioner filters. Notifies school officials concerning need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment. Cleans snow and debris from sidewalk. Mows lawn, trims shrubbery, and cultivates flowers. To perform other duties as assigned by the head custodian. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Less than high school education; or up to one-month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee frequently is required to stand, climb or balance, talk or hear, and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
