We are currently seeking a

Chief Financial Officer

to join our team. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is the senior financial executive in the Firm, advising Firm leadership and Partners on the financial aspects of the Firm’s current and potential strategic initiatives, investments and financial performance. The CFO function is strategic in nature, with a focus on how to best position the Firm for financial growth, protect against risk, and optimize applicable processes to best meet the needs of the Firm’s attorneys, staff and clients. The CFO oversees and is ultimately responsible for all aspects of the Firm's financial operations and functions. The CFO will report to the Firm’s Administrative Partner and will work closely with the Managing Partner, the Executive Committee and the Cabinet, which consists of the Firm’s other senior administrative leaders (including a separate leader responsible for revenue strategies, pricing, profitability and new business intake). The operations and functions of the Firm's Finance Department generally include cash management, general ledger, financial reporting and analysis, budgeting, taxes, accounts payable, billing, collections, borrowing (when necessary), payroll, banking and insurance. They do not include revenue strategies, pricing, industry group profitability or new business intake. The CFO shares responsibility for certain areas pertaining to risk management (along with General Counsel), facilities (along with facilities director) and the Firm’s ancillary businesses (along with business leaders of such business lines). Essential Duties and Responsibilities : Acts as a key strategic business advisor to Firm leadership. Maintains and continuously improves the integrity of the Firm's financial practices. Directs and is ultimately responsible for all financial operations and functions of the Firm. Oversees relationships with financial institutions, accounting firms (providing assurance and tax services), and any other providers of services or goods to the Firm that are relevant to the financial function of the Firm. Evaluates, implements, and supports the effectiveness of internal financial controls. Assists in the development and implementation of financial and business tactics that further the Firm's strategic plan, providing support and input to the Managing Partner, Executive Committee, Industry & Practice Group Leaders, Administrative Partner and Cabinet Members. Oversees cash management, general ledger, financial reporting and analysis, budgeting, taxes, accounts payable, billing, collections, banking, payroll, internal and external audits, insurance, capital assets, borrowing, investments, Firm ancillary business financials and retirement plan issues. (Does not oversee revenue strategies, pricing, industry group profitability or new business intake.) Manages financial aspects of real estate leases and facilities. Leads, manages and interfaces with Finance Department professional staff, with direct reports being Controller, Billing Manager, Collections Manager and Director of Facilities. Optimizes the performance of the Finance Department, ensuring accurate processing of daily transactions and production of financial statements by the Department, while continuing to provide excellent customer service to Firm leadership, fellow operations leaders, attorneys, and staff. Participates in the hiring, training, evaluating, and professional development of Finance Department staff. Performs timely and complex financial analyses in order to provide input on the Firm's business transactions and strategic initiatives. Coordinates and works with Finance Department staff to complete the Firm’s financial reports; evaluates the effectiveness of the report package and recommends changes as needed; provides final approval of the Firm’s monthly and annual financial statements and regularly reports on the Firm’s financial status to the Executive Committee and Partners. Monitors trends and performs benchmarking within the legal and relevant adjacent industries, and provides input, recommendations, and insights to key stakeholders and Firm leadership. Provides input as requested to various Firm Committees and Work Groups. Chairs the Firm’s Retirement Plan Committee. Job Requirements:

Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field preferred. Ten years of professional services firm experience strongly preferred; legal industry experience preferred. Partnership financial experience strongly preferred. CPA and public accounting experience preferred. Strong technical accounting knowledge, including an understanding of GAAP, modified cash basis account and reporting, tax requirement of governmental agencies, and general auditing procedures Demonstrated understanding of law firm billing/accounting system software. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be able to provide clear, precise, and well-substantiated explanations of financial events and trends. Comfortable with presentations to groups of attorneys and peer leaders. Able to timely and clearly communicate difficult information or unpopular messages to Firm leadership and others as needed and appropriate. Meticulous attention to detail, with ability to multi-task. Ability to work well, individually and in teams, with a diverse group of people at all levels of the Firm. Excellent people skills required. Comfortable and skillful with hands-on approach in situations where tasks and analyses cannot be delegated. Ability to bring and manage meaningful change and participate in process improvement and project management initiatives. Demonstrated strong leadership and management skills relative to a large team of finance professionals. Established external network of professional resources and contacts.
