SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the Director of Risk Management and Contracts, this position is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Loss Prevention Department. This role includes the supervision and management of daily department operations, ensuring the effective implementation and application of loss prevention programs, and leading a team of Loss Prevention Agents.

The Sr. Manager will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop and enforce loss prevention strategies, mitigate risk, and ensure a safe and secure environment. The position requires leadership in managing department staff, scheduling, and coordinating the efforts of hourly employees to maintain efficient and effective operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise and oversee the daily activities of the Loss Prevention Department on campus and at events at Snapdragon Stadium, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Must comply with and ensure continued, consistent compliance with all Aztec Shops and SDSU policies, and federal, state, and local laws/regulations including but not limited to: employment, safety, and health.
  • Lead and manage a team of Loss Prevention Agents, including hiring, training, coaching, performance evaluations, and scheduling.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor loss prevention strategies, safety and security programs, policies and procedures to minimize risk, limit loss, and reduce incidents of theft, fraud, and accidents.
  • Conduct internal and external investigations into theft, fraud, or other security incidents and collaborate with law enforcement when necessary.
  • Conduct internal policy and procedure investigations and audits, including interviews.
  • Monitor and analyze data and surveillance footage to generate reports, identify trends, risks, security issues and areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure compliance with safety standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain the department's annual budget and ensure budget guidelines are followed including receiving and reviewing cost projections and departmental invoices.
  • Maintain a professional and positive attitude while promoting a strong loss prevention culture throughout the organization including maintaining positive relationships with San Diego State University Police, San Diego Police Department, District Attorney's office, San Diego City Attorney's Office, other law enforcement agencies, and security contractors.
  • Operate in a sensitive political environment requiring a high degree of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Ensure the safety and security of all residents, guests, staff and property at all Aztec Shops owned, operated or leased locations, including residential locations.
  • Maintain Physical security/Access control.
  • Monitor overt and covert CCTV systems, and RCS (Police) radio system and respond to incidents and calls for assistance.
  • Respond to emergency situations as needed and act as a liaison with emergency services.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to loss prevention activities and incidents and provide monthly reports to leadership.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry best practices and trends in loss prevention and implement new strategies as needed.
  • Communicate regularly with management regarding loss prevention efforts. Including, but not limited to addressing and resolving management Loss Prevention and Security related concerns and providing recommendations for improvement to reduce shrinkage, address security vulnerabilities, increase productivity, limit liability, and achieve corporation goals.
  • Facilitate training to staff on loss prevention protocols and procedures to ensure compliance and understanding.
  • Oversee Secret Shopper program, over/short reviews, civil demand collection, and meal plan spot checks and ensure proper procedures are followed.
  • The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act pursuant to California Penal Code Section 11166.5.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Requirements

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

The preferred minimum requirement for applicants is a BA/BS degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management or related field; plus at least 5 years Loss Prevention/Security Management experience, or an equivalent combination of education/training and experience, with solid background in high-volume arrest operations. Certified Forensic Interviewer (CFI) or other investigative certification preferred.

Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience in staff development and performance management and at least 2 years in a supervisory role. Familiarity with regulatory requirements and best practices in loss prevention and safety.

Must be proficient in use of computers, CCTV systems, and Microsoft Office and Google Workspace, radio communications and etiquette. Must possess at time of hire, or be able to obtain CPR certification within 6 months post hire and keep all certifications current.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be able to read, write and understand English. Requires the ability to follow verbal and written instructions, guidelines and objectives. Ability to communicate in Spanish is preferred.

Requires the ability to read, comprehend, analyze, and interpret general business information, regulations and policy manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, coworkers, vendors, other departments, customers and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic math.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving multiple variables and active opposition. Must be able to make sound decisions in high stress environments where the consequences of error are great.

MANUAL DEXTERITY:

Must have average levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. Must be able to utilize a computer. Requires the ability to use a variety of office machines and equipment.

COMMUNICATION:

Must have the ability to talk (expressing and/or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words) and hear (perceiving sounds of nature by ear) to allow for normal and emergency communication between individuals and adequate perception of audible warning devices.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to move rapidly during emergency situations. Additionally, the employee may be required to stand or walk/move for extended periods of time, reach, run, or lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Employees must be able to wear up to 5 pounds of issued security equipment while on duty. Specific visual abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, distance vision, and color vision for extensive reading and interpretation of reports and documents, as well as observation of subjects both direct and via CCTV.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND HAZARDS:

The work environment is in retail stores and food services units with a variety of surroundings. The retail stores are generally carpeted, with merchandise fixtures and HVAC. Food services units may not have HVAC and could be hot and humid. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The work location on campus is a small enclosed room with CCTV equipment for sustained periods of time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. When working at Snapdragon Stadium, the working environment is typically outdoors walking on concrete; exposure to varying weather conditions such as hot sun and cold rain, and dust, allergens, work temperatures and noise. The events could have fireworks, loud announcements, cheering, and music.

BACKGROUND CHECK INFORMATION:

A background check will be conducted after a conditional offer of employment is extended by the company and accepted by the applicant and must be satisfactorily completed prior to any applicant beginning work in a full-time, part-time non-student, or sensitive student capacity with Aztec Shops.
