Security Police Officer Contingent Trinity Health Ann Arbor Job Summary: The Security Police Officers primary responsibility is to ensure a safe and secure environment for all patients, staff, and visitors at the SJMHSWest Market. Employment Type: Part time Shift: Rotating Shift Description: Under the supervision of the Chief of Security Police, the officer will provide services including security patrols, preservation of peace, assurance of safety, customer service, report writing, detection and prevention of criminal activity, and effect arrests within the parameters of security police policy, procedures, directives, as well as state and federal law. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Represent the Health System by providing assistance and guidance to all patients, staff, and visitors at the SJMHS West Market Campuses. Patrol and monitor internal and external activities of the grounds, parking lots, structures, and buildings to ensure compliance with health center policies, state law, and federal laws; respond to and report any violations. Respond to reports of criminal activity, effect arrests as appropriate, utilizing necessary force in accordance with department procedures, policies, and regulations. Respond to emergencies, fire and building alarms, medical emergencies, and other public safety incidents. Exercise independent judgment regarding reasonable suspicion to detain or search, probable cause to arrest, and application of force. Complete a daily activity report documenting non?routine activities. Prepare written reports on complaints, investigations, violations of security policy, suspicious activity, or incidents involving use of force. Perform defibrillator and vehicle maintenance checks as assigned. Maintain all security police equipment in working condition; proactively report and reduce safety risks. Respond to complaints from patients, staff, and visitors including lost property, suspicious activity, improper access, and suspicious packages. Assist with general calls such as locking/unlocking doors, vehicle lockouts, and customer service issues. Report non?functioning parking lot gates to Grounds; issue citations for parking violations. Self?report any off?duty police contact, arrests, and legal proceedings that may affect firearm eligibility. Maintain knowledge of applicable federal, state, local laws; Trinity Health Standards of Conduct; the Organizational Integrity Program; security police policy; and other related policies. Required Education, Experience, and Certification/Licensure High School diploma or equivalent; associate degree preferred. Minimum 1 year of experience in campus security/police, military, or law enforcement preferred. Successfully complete and pass a psychological evaluation. Current MCOLES license preferred or ability to complete MCOLES PA330 Academy Training within six months of hire. Maintain required qualifications by MCOLES and the State of Michigan. Valid, unrestricted Michigan drivers license. Ability to operate an Electronic Control Device (Taser) and perform required aftercare procedures. Maintain Taser certification and demonstrate proficiency annually. Required Skills and Abilities Provide leadership by example. Demonstrate sensitivity to cultural differences and medical, emotional, and mental health needs. Read and write in English.
