Wiss & Company, LLP is seeking a Senior Tax Associate, SALT to join our State and Local Tax Practice. This is an exciting opportunity for career growth and development offering a great company culture within public accounting. As part of SALT, you may have the opportunity to focus on Income / Franchise, Sales and Use Tax, or a mix of both.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Deliver a full range of State and Local Tax Services, including consulting, controversy and planning.
  • Assist with various state and local tax projects, including nexus studies, refund reviews, voluntary disclosures (VDAs), taxability analysis, and other SALT projects.
  • Prepare and/or review state tax returns including corporate, pass-through, composites, individual, and/or sales & use tax returns.
  • Research a wide range of state and local tax issues.
  • Draft memorandums, matrices, and other client deliverables.
  • Assist with state tax audits / examinations and help respond to state notices.
  • Utilize technologies and tools in deliverables and participate in technology development initiatives.
  • Coordinate the flow of information with clients.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Supervise and review the work product of other tax staff assigned to client engagements.
  • Exposure to other state and local issues; including, gross receipt taxes, property taxes, employment taxes, and/or credits and incentives.

Qualifications/Education:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting or a related field of study.
  • Actively pursuing or completed CPA, MST, JD, LLM is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in either federal and/or state and local tax.
  • Experience with tax preparation software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong technology skills, including Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a collaborative team.
  • Willingness to travel to client locations when needed.
