Estate Director

REF: 10030 The Opportunity A senior position leading the Estate team so as to manage, enhance, and optimise all areas of Thurlow Estate’s land and property based enterprises. The Estate is a family-owned rural property business extending to approximately 15,500 acres, within Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire and centred around the village of Thurlow. It includes an in-hand arable farm of some 11,900 acres, 1,550 acres of tenanted land, 1,500 acres of woodland, approaching 200 houses, let offices and light industrial units. Reporting directly to the Board comprising four Vestey brothers and a non-executive director, the successful candidate will help develop and implement the Estate Strategy so as to align with the recently defined Ownership Strategy and Vision. Able to demonstrate strong commercial and financial acumen, the appointee will support the families through a forthcoming succession process, identify the challenges and extensive opportunities that the future holds for the Estate, inspire, motivate and mentor the Estate management team and represent the Estate to employees, tenants and the local community. The Candidate A proven track record in the management of private landed estates and a good working knowledge of agricultural, residential, and commercial property; ideally MRICS / CAAV although candidates with extensive relevant property experience without qualifications will be considered. Experience of leading a team that delivers commercial results, and fostering strong, trusting relationships. Entrepreneurial ability to anticipate emerging trends. An enquiring mind and ability to innovate. As a key representative of the Estate, you will be an engaging and professional individual with strong communication skills who leads by example, able to interact with and develop strong relationships with tenants, stakeholders, and people in the broader community.
