Job Summary The Principal Oracle Database Administrator is a seasoned technologist responsible for the design and support of Oracle Technology Platform including Oracle Databases, Applications and Data Warehouse environments. This is a hands on position that will lead the development of standards and statement of purpose (SOPs), and the design and implementation of new applications and disaster recovery solutions for a diverse group of databases. This role will provide technical leadership and guidance to varying audiences regarding database architectures and successful implementation methodologies. This is a highly interactive position and involve communication with I.T. analysts and application sponsors across the organization. Duties Serve as the primary database administrator (DBA) and subject matter expert for all the systems based on Oracle Technology including databases, applications and enterprise data warehouse (EDW). Define standards to manage multiple relational database management system (RDBMS) on various operating systems. Provide input on and design new implementations in collaboration with vendors, infrastructure and application support teams in on premise, cloud and hybrid environments where appropriate. Work with Project Managers on work prioritization and assign tasks to the team members and make sure to complete them successfully. Assist I.T. Management in day-to-day operations including timesheet management, ticket resolution and work allocation. Oversee all aspects of Oracle database system design, implementation, troubleshooting, and administration. Lead and mentor the team members to provide tier 2 and 3 support for all corporate Oracle database systems and services to meet or exceed service level agreements. Develop, install, maintain and monitor company databases in a high performance/high availability environment while supporting enterprise projects. Provide general database design, implementation and administration to assure highest reliability and availability of I.T. services. Maintain database backup/recovery procedures and disaster recovery database environment. Develop and support procedures for database security. Conduct database capacity planning, record archival, and storage monitoring regularly. Implement and support database software upgrade and patch management procedures. Document database specifications, licensing, configuration and infrastructure. Develop processes, procedures and guidelines for troubleshooting database events and performing tasks. Evaluate and seek solutions to production issues as wells as new projects. Work closely with application developers and project managers in solving production issues. Perform other duties as assigned. Duties Continued Education Required Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Related Field In lieu of degree, equivalent education and/or experience may be considered. Education Preferred Master's Degree in Computer Science or Related Field Experience Required: At least 7 years of extensive and broad based experience in the design, administration and support of Oracle databases in one or more client server environments (e.g. LINUX, UNIX) with in depth experience in Oracle 10g/11g. Use skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and company policies and procedures; resolve a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways. Strong knowledge of Database Backup and recovery using RMAN backups. Strong experience performing Oracle Database installations upgrades and patches installation. Working in a Health Care Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) in a similar capacity. Preferred: Knowledge of other databases such as Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL and PostgreSQL. Skills Required: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Requires strong interpersonal skills including: leadership; initiative; attention to detail; and decisive decision making skills. Ability to work flexible hours as required by business priorities. Advanced analytical and creative skills and demonstrate resourcefulness in problem solving and optimization of design. Ability to communicate information and issues clearly and succinctly with both technical and non-technical personnel. Self-manage work and complete systems and database related projects independently, on a team, and while leading a team. High competency in risk assessment and management. Ability to quickly adapt to and learn unfamiliar technologies. Very experienced supporting highly transactional, large-scale databases. Expected to be fully versed in logical data modeling and how to translate it into physical database design. Expected to understand and apply system management, performance timing and troubleshooting techniques.
