Site Logistics Lead

The incumbent serves as a member of the Site Leadership Team. Plans, coordinates, and directs all material handling, bulk shipping and warehouse activities. These activities include: storage of bulk and packaged finished goods, blending of materials, bulk and packaged order processing, planning, shipping schedules for bulk and packaged goods, receiving, transfers of finished goods and packaged raw materials, drumming, responsible for packaging at SPU, Texin, Polyol (except old Texin packaging), responsible for unloading raw materials (bulk rail cars and tank trucks), label printing, facility maintenance, capital spending, customer service, and hazardous materials emergency consult team. The incumbent must assure total compliance with all safety, environmental, regulatory and quality procedures within the supply chain.
Major Tasks & responsibilities:
- Direct, coordinate, plan and organize staff for total material handling, storage, containerization and shipping activities for orders exceeding 11,000 annually using the quality process to safely meet or exceed all customer requirements and maintain operating facilities at the highest standard possible to provide a safe and cost-effective material handling function. In addition, direct and control inventory cycle count at the New Martinsville finished goods Warehouse, packaging and raw material unloading.
- Forecast facility improvements and/or additions to handle the products/business forecasted by Sales / Marketing or dictated by Plant production.
- Monitor maintenance, operational and capital spending to ensure cost control and focus on continuous improvements in safety, environmental performance.
- Oversee container testing as required by Federal regulations and develop safer and cost-effective methods of transporting product to customers.
- Monitor bulk carriers and railroad performance to ensure safe, on-time deliveries while meeting all DOT, EPA, OSHA, ICC, FRA, AAR and Covestro requirements.
- Provide Sales / Marketing and our external customers with the technical support necessary to resolve bulk unloading and material handling problems. These functions include on-site visits to external customers. Provide technical assistance and the facilities required to assist our internal production requirements.
- Ensure operating activities comply with all State and Federal regulations, i.e., DOT, PSM, OPA90, HON, Title V, etc. and maintain TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) identification credential for unescorted access to restricted areas of MTSA regulated facilities.
- Per Covestro SAP Authorization Concept, accountable for access to assigned SAP functions and data and content of positions within responsible process area.
- Review and approve user requests for access to positions related to responsible processes.
- Work with the Covestro Authorization Coordinator and be intimately aware of Covestro SAP Security Guidelines regarding risks around sensitive transactions and segregation of duty conflicts to avoid development of any activity group or position which might lead to potential conflicts or approval of a request that may result in a user violation.
- Regularly monitor user access for departmental personnel changes. Notify the Access Administrator of any changes regarding approver group make-up SAP Authorization Concept, accountable for access to assigned SAP functions and data and content of positions within responsible process area.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 7 years of manufacturing/supply chain experience; engineering or supply chain discipline preferred; OR Master's degree with a minimum of 5 years' experience; OR high school diploma with 15 years of direct logistics experience and 7+ years of managerial experience
- Sound working knowledge of shipping, warehousing, containers and general traffic, as well as, knowledge of production planning, inventory control, production capabilities, and customer service.
- Sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines
- Broad background encompassing the equipment used in bulk and packaged material handling and the transportation of chemicals is required.
- Ability to improvise is a valuable asset.
- Working knowledge of statistics, computer operations, process control, root cause analysis and basic engineering principles are essential
- Demonstrated ability to lead change
- Ability to manage necessary resources to meet business goals while complying with safety, environmental and regulatory standards
- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a team of individuals
- Demonstrated ability to develop personnel to assume positions of increased responsibility within Covestro
- Demonstrated ability to assess employee performance, and address such issues
- Demonstrated strong communication skills for interacting with all levels of personnel (Sr. Management/Operating Technicians).
- Capable of passing "A" and "B" technician qualification tests for the Supply Chain.
- Willing and able to train and serve as an Incident Commander for the NM site.
- Experience with PUR Manufacturing is preferred
