Pharmacy Technician Coordinator - Inpatient The Pharmacy Technician Coordinator - Inpatient position is located within the Veterans Affairs William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital and Clinics Health Care System Pharmacy. The Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Coordinator evaluates and coordinates the workflow and technical aspects of pharmacy operations within the Inpatient Pharmacy service area. Responsibilities include: Assisting pharmacy supervisor in quality improvement activities by participating in medical center and service process assessment and action teams and continually seeking to improve services. Sharing responsibility with Pharmacy Supervisor for training, performance improvement, regulatory compliance, corrective actions, quality and assurance activities. Performing duties as an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician. Effectively directing technical staff to assure workflow is optimized within assigned service area. Continuously analyzing and reassessing priorities, redirecting staff to assure that workload demands are accomplished in the most effective, efficient, and economic manner possible. Effectively evaluating pharmacy activities to assist management to obtain short- and long-range objectives and goals. Assessing workflow and work volume and will assist pharmacy administration in documenting justification for additional technical staff and make recommendations for expanded roles of technical staff. Responsible for on-the job training, assessment, and oversight of all pharmacy technicians (GS-2 through GS-8), student technicians, technician trainees, and volunteers in Pharmacy Service, basing that training on established policy, procedure, and position competencies. Conduct technician meetings to assure proper updates of departmental and hospital communications by sending out meeting reminders, requests for agenda items, agenda development, documentation, and distribution of meeting minutes. Demonstrating flexibility and versatility in serving as on-line back up to other pharmacy technicians within the designated area of pharmacy and performing all the duties of a Pharmacy Technician at the same or lower grade as required and assigned. Work Schedule: Full-time, Varies Days: Monday-Sunday, Days with PM's and Weekend rotations. Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. For all grade levels and positions that accept both education and experience to qualify, equivalent combinations of qualifying education and experience that total at least 100% are qualifying. Certification (GS-07 and above): For positions above the full performance level, the employee must pass a national certification exam and hold an active national certification through either: Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). OR National Healthcareer Association (NHA), Certified Pharmacy Technician (ExCPT). Preferred Experience: Leading, coaching, training, or supervising pharmacy technicians Planning, scheduling, and assigning tasks to maintain day-to-day operations Implementation of new workflows, technology, or process improvement projects Experience with sterile and non-sterile compounding Experience using and maintaining pharmacy automation such as Pyxis automated dispensing cabinets, Parata unit-dose packager, compounding software, or medication carousels.
