Description We are looking for a senior ecologist with a strong background in environmental restoration and/or ecological permitting to join an interdisciplinary team of scientists and landscape architects working on restoration and natural resource management projects throughout the United States. The Ecology Director will be based in our San Diego office and will oversee a team of ecologists, while supporting project management and business development company wide. In addition, the Ecology Director will provide senior review on proposals, client deliverables, and other materials as needed. The selected individual will work closely with our other Directors and with leadership throughout the company. Requirements Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements for consideration: Master’s degree in Ecology, Ecotoxicology, Conservation Biology, Environmental Forensics, Environmental Data Science, Environmental Management, Natural Resource Management, Habitat Management, Watershed Science, or directly related field plus at least eight years of post-grad professional experience in restoration ecology, quantitative ecology, geospatial analysis, large-scale biomonitoring, environmental management, forest and rangeland management, or closely related work outside of the academic environment. OR Bachelor’s degree in in Ecology, Ecotoxicology, Conservation Biology, Environmental Forensics, Environmental Data Science, Environmental Management, Natural Resource Management, Habitat Management, Watershed Science, or directly related field and at least ten years of professional experience in restoration ecology, quantitative ecology, geospatial analysis, large-scale biomonitoring, environmental management, forest and rangeland management, or closely related work outside of the academic environment. AND At least three years of experience directly managing people (including recruiting, performance management, retention, etc.). At least three years of project management experience, including scoping, scheduling, budget development and management, invoicing, and relationship building with clients. Preference will be given to candidates who have the following skills: Previous ecological consulting experience with a demonstrated ability to manage large, complex, ecologically-focused projects. Experience leading the planning and/or permitting of ecological restoration projects. Experience managing multi-faceted teams of 8-10 people with varying skillsets and job responsibilities. Strong knowledge of the flora and ecosystems of the arid southwest, particularly southern California. Strong background in environmental law and policy. Exceptional organizational and time management skills. Critical thinking with strong problem-solving skills and experience contributing to complex restoration planning. Excellent cross-functional communication skills that lead to confidence dealing with clients and team members at all levels and functions of the organization.
