Description

As a member of the Enterprise Cloud Engineering Team, a Staff Cloud Engineer designs, develops, tests, implements, and maintains cloud architecture for Empyrean. They are responsible for troubleshooting cloud issues and providing a self-service, user-friendly platform for the application development team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work as the primary owner of cloud design within a Kanban development team
  • Participate in ARB (Architecture Review Board) and provide cloud technical governance
  • Help document requirements, communicate to the team, and help provide cloud DevOps principles. Help provide Cloud PaaS and support to IT Operations.
  • Share existing and acquired skills with team members through formal and informal mentoring.
  • Design, develop, and implement cloud strategy
  • Design, develop, test, and implement cloud PaaS
  • Write unit tests based on system requirements
  • Understand Internet and client/server architectures
  • Understand expectations that were set with product owners and recognize when issues/events may affect delivery
  • Work closely with a variety of stakeholders to ensure technical compatibility and user satisfaction
  • Interact with UI and Web developers to provide data and services
  • Help produce and ensure that coding standards and design patterns are being enforced
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Some broad experience in multiple areas of cloud practice, E.G:
    • Cloud Security
    • Cloud Networking
  • Strong understanding of cloud design patterns
  • Strong containerization and service mesh experience
  • Strong experience in driving cloud governance and assessing non-conformance in a cross-collaborative environment
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Experienced technical mentorship of cloud engineers
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, specifically documentation skills
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and work effectively in a multi-tasking environment
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree preferred but not required
    • In lieu of Bachelor's degree, equivalent years of experience in computer science, engineering, benefits administration, or a related field
  • 6-8 years of experience in the following areas:
    • Infrastructure as code delivery
    • DevOps & SRE practices
    • Cloud platform and engineering design
  • Experience within a cloud-based service such as the following:
    • Microsoft Azure
    • Amazon Web Services
    • Google Cloud Platform
  • Prior experience in benefit program administration; knowledge of Health and Welfare processes a plus
  • Or, any equivalent combination of education, experience, certificates, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered
