Requirements
Minimum Qualification:
High School Graduate or equivalent preferred.
Position Description:
- Performs assigned tasks in a professional manner in order to reflect the highest integrity of the Environmental Services Department.
- Performs routine cleaning of patient rooms, nursing units, offices, clinical areas, waiting areas, lobbies, lounges, rest rooms, corridors, elevators and stairways in a clean, neat and sanitary manner.
- Completes work assignments in a timely manner.
- Utilizes the appropriate chemicals, supplies and cleaning techniques according to procedure and manufacturer's recommendations.
- Performs restoration functions on highly soiled or worn areas.
- Operates and maintains all equipment correctly and safely.
- Observes safety precautions at all times.
- Uses WET FLOOR safety signs for cleaning where appropriate.
- Follows all infection prevention and control practices, including Standard Precautions, Transmission-Based Precautions and hand hygiene.
- Reports safety hazards as appropriate.
- Replenishes supplies; notifies the supervisor when supplies need to be ordered.
- Always introduces self to patients, families and visitors.
- Assists visitors with directions whenever requested.
- Maintains set quality standards when performing job duties.
- Ability to do work on his/her own with normal supervision.
- Performs all aspects of assigned tasks in a manner that optimizes patient safety.
- Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
- Able to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Able to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Collects and disposes of trash in designated areas.
- Cleans floors, rugs, and upholstered furniture by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing or vacuuming.
- Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
- Keep storage areas and carts well-stocked, clean and tidy.
- Cleans outside of all entryways to include cleaning mats.
- Ensures medical wastes in assigned sections are properly stored before the end of the work period.
- Responds to emergencies requiring cleaning services.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Completes annual education requirements.
- Maintains regulatory requirements.
- Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled. Completes work within designated time.
- Wears identification while on duty; uses the computerized punch time system correctly.
- Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, health plans and staff.
- Attends annual review and departmental inservices, as scheduled.
- Attends staff meetings; reads and returns all monthly staff meeting minutes if necessary.
- Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner in the community.
- Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
- Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
- Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department.
- Willing to take on-call and responds within the 30 minute response time.
- Attends mandatory meetings held within the department.
- Adjust work hours/schedule to meet the needs and demands of the department and hospital.
- Aware of all Emergency Disaster Plans and how to respond if a Disaster occurs.
- Works effectively with others, demonstrates leadership and teaching ability and the ability to work under pressure.
- Appreciation of and desire to be part of a health care team dedicated to providing patients optimal care.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Previous institutional cleaning experience preferred
- Demonstrate knowledge in all areas of housekeeping
- Basic Microsoft computer skills or the ability to learn such skills.
Additional Requirements with or without Reasonable Accommodation:
Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, communicate in English, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry over 100 lbs, perceive depth.
Conditions include working inside, outside, working around machines with moving parts and moving objects, radiant and electrical energy, working closely with others, working alone, working protracted or irregular hours. Exposure to steam/heat/wet hazards, body fluids and/or infection from disease-bearing specimens, exposure to chemicals/biohazardous/radioactive substances, exposure to explosive/flammable chemicals or gases, exposure to patient/visitors under a wide variety of circumstances.
Mental demands include; alertness, analytic ability, memory, concentration, judgment, initiative, precision, creativity and communication.
