Responsibilities:

The Behavioral Health Clinical Supervisor will oversee the provision of comprehensive mental health services on a specialized Behavioral Health Unit (BHU) within a correctional institution. The unit predominantly serves patients with serious mental illness who require residential-level care. The Clinical Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care, fostering a therapeutic environment, and supporting a multidisciplinary team of behavioral health professionals in close collaboration with custody (i.e., corrections staff) partners.

Program Development:

  • Participate in the development of the BHU in collaboration with the site BH Director and VP of Program Development
  • Identify and implement innovative treatment modalities and programs to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Collaborate with institutional leadership to align mental health services with overall facility goals and objectives.

Clinical Oversight:

  • Ensure patients are appropriately referred and admitted to the BHU.
  • Supervise behavioral health clinicians in the clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning for patients admitted to the BHU.
  • Ensure that all treatment interventions are evidence-based and tailored to the specific needs of the patients, including the provision of group and individual therapy

Staff Management:

  • Lead multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings with BHU patients, clinical staff (including BH Clinicians, BH Tech, and Re-entry/Court Liaison), custody staff, and medical team members to create effective treatment plans to manage difficult and complex BHU patients.
  • Provide regular supervision, training, and professional development opportunities to enhance staff competencies and performance.

Quality Assurance:

  • Provide the necessary preparation of documentation, administrative records, rosters, and
  • Participate in CQI process, as well as monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of clinical interventions and programs.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant standards, regulations, and policies, including those specific to correctional health care

Patient Care Coordination:

  • Coordinate with medical, psychiatric, and custodial staff to ensure integrated care for patients.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of individualized treatment plans and discharge planning (both discharges to outpatient care within the correctional institution and back into the community).

Crisis Intervention:

  • Provide direct clinical support and intervention during psychiatric emergencies and crises.
  • Develop and implement crisis intervention protocols to ensure the safety and well-being of patients and staff in collaboration with custody partners.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all clinical activities and patient interactions in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Prepare reports and analyses to inform program development and improvement.
