POSITION SUMMARY

The Prevention Specialist is responsible for providing HIV testing services and assisting in the planning and implementation of other prevention education interventions provided at the Health Center and various outreach settings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in the implementation of individual and group level HIV prevention interventions for the priority populations using the program model selected by the Health Center.
  • Ensure that evidence-based interventions are implemented with fidelity.
  • Provide comprehensive, client-centered HIV risk reduction counseling and testing services for clients.
  • Create and/or disseminate social media messaging to reach the priority population and submit posts to review boards for approval.
  • Disseminate educational materials and safer sex tools to clients during program related activities per scope of work and Health Center protocols.
  • Complete all program paperwork and forms required for each project assigned in a detailed and timely fashion.
  • Maintain data on all clients served and interventions provided per Health Center policy and grant requirements.
  • Assist in completing assigned sections of program reports and grant narratives in a detailed and timely fashion.
  • Ensure that clients with an HIV positive test results are referred to a Linkage to Care Case manager.
  • Attend and actively participate in all required Health Center and community meetings as assigned.
  • Assist prevention staff in providing education and oversight of students and volunteers assigned to projects.
  • Provide prompt, helpful responses to internal and external partners who reach out with questions or concerns.
  • Coordinate with internal partners, including Peers, HIV Case Management, Behavioral Health, HIV Primary Care, and Marketing to ensure strong interdepartmental collaboration.
  • Coordinate community events and outreach activities that promote program services and KC CARE services.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Six months' experience in healthcare or related field
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, health education or related field
  • Previous HIV/AIDS prevention experience

Working Conditions

General working conditions are in a healthcare facility. As such, there is a potential exposure to virus, disease, and infection from patients while performing the duties of this job. May experience traumatic situations including psychiatric traumatized and deceased patients. Travel may be expected to community meetings, client homes, or other agencies.

Physical Demands

While performing duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk and hear; both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel, or operate standard office or clinical equipment; reach with hands and arms; and occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
