Position description:
The Seattle Aquarium, a leading marine conservation organization, is looking for a custodian lead to join the facilities operations team. The lead custodian partners with the custodian supervisor to provide direction to the custodial team, implement green cleaning practices and complete event procedures, all in support of our regenerative plan.Our goal is to have zero waste by 2025 and this position will help in this conservation goal.
This person is responsible to perform day-to-day custodial, maintenance and event operations, deep cleaning operations and to report on the condition of the building to the maintenance team in a professional, safe, efficient manner.
The custodian lead will provide guidance to others on the team in the absence of the supervisor.
Key functions:
Leadership and Teamwork:
Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and
maintain
them over time.
Model safe work practices and work with custodian team to ensure work is performed safely
.
Inspect work performed by the team to ensure that it meets established standards, bring performance concerns to the custodian supervisor.
Train new custodians in proper cleaning techniques, including green cleaning practices.
Respond quickly to staff requests
for
custodial issues
.
All Aquarium staff and volunteers are expected to
participate
in advancing and integrating into their work Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Regenerative practices in alignment with our S.A.L.I.S.H. Values.
Custodial and compliance:
Perform routine cleaning and monitoring of assigned buildings and spaces. Notify managers concerning the need for repairs or improvements.
Service, clean, or supply restrooms.
Gather and empty trash; understand best practices of recycling and composting; work with team to help others
understand
Clean building floors by
sweeping,
mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming using floor machine (training will be provided).
Maintain outside areas, sidewalks, windows, walls, and trash removal,
snow
and ice removal etc.
Follow all safety policies and procedures and safely
operate
all vehicles and other job-related equipment.
Take
trainings
as
required
in cleaning and maintenance practices and techniques, new products and working relationships.
Events and special projects:
Working with event staff,
assist
with event set up coordination. Delegate and
assist
the team with work orders to support events of all kinds. Includes planning for room and stage set up, trash removal, clean up,
etc.
Assist
maintenance staff with special projects such as deep cleaning projects or moving furniture and equipment.
Other duties as assigned.

Combination of one year or more of
demonstrated
education and/or experience in a related field or role.
Prior lead experience, delegating to others and assessing work projects.
Customer service experience
required

Ability to convey information clearly,

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Multilingual and multicultural communication skills and experience are preferred.
Basic computer skills: able to
utilize
the work order system and read and respond to emails. computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office,
Excel
and Microsoft Outlook.
Able to work independently or as a member of a team.
Demonstrates an understanding of the Aquarium's Mission and Values, including Regenerative and Equity work.
Knowledge of cleaning procedures and related cleaning chemicals.
Knowledge of and ability to safely use and
maintain
cleaning equipment: hand tools, buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high pressure washers, high speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls,
carpets
and
furniture
Working conditions:
While performing the duties of this job the employee

Exposure to outside weather conditions and noise from machinery and visitors when Aquarium is busy

Must be able and willing to safely
use
scissor lift and other power equipment to complete responsibilities.
Salary and benefits: $23.80 - $27.00/hour.
Dependent on experience. Please include salary expectations in your materials.
