We are looking for an Underwriter Trainee with the ability to review, evaluate, and determine premium for renewal and new business applications. This role will process and issue policies and endorsements and related documents within company/agency granted authority. Underwriter Trainee’s will also build a knowledge base of the competitive markets, coverages, and agents to ensure efficient delivery, follow-up and servicing requirements of all new business and renewal accounts. Responsibilities: In order of importance, listed are the major tasks or duties performed regularly to fulfill the basic function of the job with a brief description of each task. Develop the ability to perform risk selection and analysis by examining and evaluating documents such as applications, inspections reports, financial reports, product brochures, and insured web sites. Follow underwriting guidelines and authority granted in the review of risks and account selection. Build relationships with agents through timely service of accounts and risk placement. Effectively communicate with agent or brokers, company underwriters, internal staff and management to obtain additional information, quote accounts, as well as servicing existing accounts. Connect with carrier underwriters to assist in learning coverage, guidelines, and technology. Maintain renewal book of business/premium as required. Understand rate goals by line of coverage and account. Address assigned workload within quality, productivity and service standards as established by the company/underwriting guidelines. Appropriate and timely response to questions posed by brokers, clients, underwriters, and other company personnel. Special projects as needed/assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Listed are the preferred specialized knowledge, skills and/or scope of related experience required to successfully achieve the major accountabilities of the position. Recognize and effectively act upon situations with limited supervision. Good computer and application skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to follow instructions and adhere to prescribed routines and practices. Maintain an attention to detail. Critical and analytical thinking abilities. Effective time management and organizational skills Interpersonal skills/Effective team skills Minimum high school diploma or GED, Bachelor’s Degree preferred. 1-3 years of similar related job experience. Functional knowledge of product offerings, insurance concepts, practices, and procedures. We recommend this individual pursue entry level insurance related courses which will enhance knowledge of insurance coverages to better enable employee to perform job functions and advance within the organization. Courses may be pursued independently or within company prescribed format. Refer to Human Resources for available course information and/or course recommendation.
