General Responsibilities

  1. The driver is responsible for ensuring the safe transportation of meals to Home Delivered Meals participants.
  2. Other duties as assigned within the guidelines of this position.
Essential Functions
  1. Ability to drive to destinations within the limits of Kankakee County at least once per week.
  2. Pick up food from local caterer site and transport to designated participants along delivery route(s).
  3. Unload meals from vehicle and bring to participant's front door.
  4. Perform basic wellness checks and make contact with all participants when making deliveries.
  5. Be willing to be on call during the week to fill-in and drive for any volunteers who call off a driving shift.
  6. May drive up to five (4) hour shifts Monday through Friday depending on the destination.
  7. Must attend Agency trainings and mandatory meetings as determined by Nutrition Program Manager.
Requirements
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred for this position. All degrees must come from a regionally accredited educational institution which has U.S. Department of Education approval.
  2. A minimum of 1 year of experience driving a vehicle is required.
  3. Must successfully complete the Agency's Defensive Driving course.
  4. Must have a clean driving record and have a working knowledge of the rules and regulations involved in the safe and efficient operation of a vehicle.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and constructively with persons from all racial or ethnic backgrounds, diverse cultures, family systems, and social backgrounds.
  6. Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.
  7. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, and Teams.
  8. Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  9. Passage of complete background clearance.
  10. Catholic Charities, Diocese of Joliet, has adopted and follows the Codes of Ethics established by Catholic Charities USA, the National Association of Social Workers and the American Psychological Association. As an employee of the Agency you are expected to support these codes to the extent doing so is consistent with and allowed by applicable law.
  11. A valid driver's license, reliable means of transportation and proof of liability insurance is required.
