Mississippi Employer - Senior Center Director - Brookhaven, Mississippi Duties: Administers and directs the City Senior Citizen Center; does related work as required. Examples of Work: The employee is responsible for ensuring that the facility is equipped and supplied. The employee functions with wide latitude of technical and administrative discretion within the framework of broad policies established by the Parks and Recreation superintendent. Plans and directs an expanding and flexible program of recreational activities for all segments, groups, age and interest levels of the community at the Senior Citizen Center. Recommends the acquisition and directs the development of the facility to best serve the widest interests of the community. Purchases equipment and supplies. Schedules programs on a year-round basis to meet the needs of the center. Arranges for instructors for various classes. Conducts a variety of special events. Hires and provides training programs for subordinate staff. Works with civic and other community groups in developing programs for specific groups. Interprets the program through press releases and other publicity. Prepares or directs the preparation of periodic and special reports. Required Knowledge, Training and Experience: Graduate from a college or university with a degree in Therapeutic Recreation with an emphasis in Geriatrics or a related field. Ability to develop and execute a well-rounded program of recreational activities. Ability to organize and direct the work of others. Ability to develop and maintain effective relations with subordinates and to promote and maintain high morale and enthusiasm.
