General Machinist l

The General Machinist is an entry level position that will assist machine shop personnel with various duties within the Shop. This role requires someone who not only takes pride in the quality of their work but also enjoys and thrives in the fast-paced environment of a busy shop.

Education:
High School Diploma or GED preferred
Experience:
1 - 2 years working in a manufacturing and/or machine shop setting preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of machines and tools
• Basic reading, writing, and math skills
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints
• Experience using one or more of the following tools: Lathe, milling machine, hone, drill press, and vertical/horizontal cut off saw is a plus
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Strong communication skills

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operate machinery used in the production process, or assist machine operators. Includes the operation of conventional fabrication equipment such as (arbor press, hydraulic press, band saw, chop saw, and small hand tools)
• Lift raw materials, finished products, and packed items, manually or using hoists
• Count finished products to determine if product orders are complete
• Mark or tag identification on parts
• Load and unload items from machines, conveyors, and conveyances
• Assist production workers by supplying or holding materials or tools, or cleaning work areas and equipment.
• Record information, such as the number of products tested, meter readings, or dates and times of product production
• Performs other duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee must be able to walk, sit and stand. The employee occasionally lifts up to 50 lbs., and occasionally kneels and bends. Should have the ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects. Ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting or standing. The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs. The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer). The employee will perform physical work a minimum of 90% of work day.
Work Environment:
The manufacturing environment is subject to moderate changes in temperature and the employee will be exposed to typical hazards of noise, flying debris, and overhead hazards the use of proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
The position will interface with the Manufacturing, Engineering, Accounting, and Purchasing departments as necessary. This position will also require overtime as necessary.
