Job Summary

This position provides care for the patients of the St Cloud Ear Nose and Throat Clinic (SCENT), as directed by and under the supervision of the Physicians and Clinical Team.

Work Hours

This position will generally work between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Start and end times may vary based on unexpected delays that occasionally occur at the clinic as well as when assisting at outreach offices.

Essential Job Functions

Prioritize clinic and Physician needs while overseeing patient flow in a fast-paced clinic setting.
Prepare exam rooms and procedure rooms for the next patient, ensuring that proper supplies and equipment are readily available.
Obtain consent from patients and prepare patients for examinations and procedures.
Obtain vital signs and detailed patient health histories, ensuring that all information is properly documented in the computer system.
Provide educational information to patients and their families and assist with responding to general questions.
Assist with a multitude of in-office procedures including lesion, excisions, facial plastic closures, and sinuplasty, etc.
Assess and review patient symptoms with the Physician, when necessary, to ensure the appropriate level of care for the patient.
Assist the Physicians as needed with duties that fall within the LPN/CMA scope of practice.
Follow all clinic compliance and safety requirements regarding sterilization techniques, OSHA requirements, cleaning and any other compliance standards required within the clinical realm of the practice.

Requirements:

Qualifications and Skills Required

Education: Successful completion of an accredited school of practical nursing or successful completion of a certificate as a Certified Medical Assistant.

Licensure: Must have current and unrestricted licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of Minnesota or current and unrestricted certificate as a Certified Medical Assistant.

Experience: Experience working in a medical facility preferred.

Credentialing and Continuing Education: Must attend all OSHA and specified mandatory in-services and meetings. Must maintain current CPR certification and must keep up with Minnesota's requirement for continued education units (CEUs).

Skills: Ability to communicate clearly, work cooperatively and maintain a high degree of professionalism with colleagues within and outside of the organization.

Requires the ability to speak English fluently. Fluency in the Somali or Spanish languages helpful.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

This position requires standing and walking almost the entire workday. This position involves repetitive actions in using the computer keyboard and continuous viewing information on the computer monitor.

Job duties also require direct patient contact. Employees are required to assist patients with mobility difficulties and therefore must be able to lift, squat, bend and reach. Procedures are performed in the office. Employees may be exposed to blood and other bodily fluids and must be fluent in the understanding and use of universal precautions regarding blood-borne pathogens. Employees must also understand sterile techniques vs. clean techniques.

Travel

This position requires travel to outreach offices (within 1 hour of St. Cloud). On average, the frequency of travel is about twice per month. It will vary slightly based on the location for which you perform outreach.

Additional Eligibility Requirements

Must be able to pass the criminal background check and Tuberculosis screening.
