Community Health Connections (CHC), founded on February 25, 2002, is a mainstay for compassionate care, regardless of income or insurance status. We have over 20 years of experience as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) serving everyone who comes through our doors; including low income, underinsured, uninsured, publicly housed, and homeless populations, in 35 cities and towns in North Central Massachusetts.

Under the general and direct supervision of the dentist, assists during the examination and treatment of patients.

Essential Duties & Major Responsibilities:

Prepare patient and operatory for dental oral surgery treatment.

Review and enter patient medical history into electronic dental record.

Take blood pressure and pulse as required.

Remain with assigned provider for duration of procedures.

Remain with patient in operatory.

Maintain dental instruments, materials and medications in the quantities to be used for oral surgery treatment.

Maintain organization of instruments/supplies/treatment rooms.

Follow infection control protocols and procedures.

Keep oral operating field clean during dental oral surgery procedures.

Prepare and sterilize instruments following procedures.

Operate equipment safely including autoclave, ultrasonic cleaner, vibrator, stone trimmer, etc.

Prepare oral surgery equipment.

Demonstrate working knowledge of implant procedures including instruments, equipment, etc.

Set up and assist for implant surgery procedures

Set up and assist for advanced oral surgery procedures (bone grafting, sinus lifting)

Expose CBCT and PANX images

Perform routine maintenance of oral surgery equipment.

Set up, assist and prepare for shipment of biopsy procedures/specimens.

Provide patients with pre/post-operative instructions regarding all surgery procedures.

Help patients with understanding appointments, etc. when required.

Assist provider with entering billing codes before dismissing a patient.

Assist provider with end of day tasks including printing and checking of the day sheet.

Scan documents into computer as required.

Work as part of a team and help other assistants and dentists as needed.

Work in other sites including Fitchburg, Leominster, Gardner and ACTION as needed

Communicate effectively with other staff and patients in a respectful manner.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma required. Additional training that leads to a basic knowledge of dental terminology and dental service procedures preferred.
  • One year experience working with an oral surgeon preferred.
  • Two years experience in a dental office preferred.
  • MA Dental Assisting License
  • Radiology Certificate
  • CPR Certified
  • Proficient reading, writing, and speaking in English.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal relationship skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, physically demanding office environment
