POSITION SUMMARY: The Process Control Engineer provides technical support related to process controls for plant operations. This position reports to the Process Controls Supervisor and supports process control activities, as a member of an Operating Team, within the Canton Refinery. They will be assigned a specific area within the refinery with responsibilities of daily monitoring and troubleshooting of process controls applications and configurations. Controls engineers will apply state-of-the-art technology related to process control and optimization to improve process safety and to increase the economic efficiency of refining operations. Controls engineers work in a team environment with unit operators and engineers of other disciplines to maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize existing refinery assets. Controls engineers will track emerging technology and will interface with corporate refining technologists to help determine future strategies and investments. The schedule for the position is a day shift position of working 5/8's or 9/80's. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintain performance of installed controls. Improve stability, robustness, economic performance, and HES performance of existing controls. Enhance refinery economics by maintaining knowledge of Product Control Targets, economic drivers, and constraints limiting profitability. Maintain knowledge of future plans for changing operating conditions and equipment modifications. Provide process control support to projects. Activities include designing and implementing new control or shutdown strategies, modifying or creating graphics, cutover and testing of new loops, and providing startup support. Identify new (or changes to existing) advanced control solutions to maximize profitability and HES performance. Initiate, develop, and implement process control strategies on DCS equipment. Maintain and improve operator performance through maintaining and improving the performance of the HMI and Alarm Interface. Improve alarm performance through monitoring, reporting, tuning, and suppression. Support Operations on process control strategies, advanced control applications, and DCS/SIS systems. Act as a lead or a participant in incident investigations and participate in the MOC/LOPA processes. Provide on-call support for Process Control systems. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline required (Chemical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Preferred). (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date) Minimum of three years of experience in refining or petrochemical industry is required. Two years process controls experience preferred. DCS Proficiencies: Experion PKS and/or Honeywell TPS preferred. Emerson DeltaV will be considered. PLC Proficiencies: AB and/or Schneider-Electric Triconex preferred. A driver's license is required.
