About rhizoma

rhizoma is a dynamic storytelling and learning platform, where EMA Foundation shares compelling stories and resources related to the work of our funding partners. rhizoma aims to build community by reshaping and amplifying a diverse collection ofnarratives spanning arts, culture, identity, education, humanitarianism, and philanthropic efforts worldwide. Community members will be able to access and engage with a variety of blog posts, articles, films, panel discussions, live events, interactive courses, and opportunities for peer-to-peer connection.

About the Role

EMA Foundation is seeking an intern to join our team this summer and provide collaborative support for the foundation's communication strategy. The intern will gain valuable experience in non-profit communications strategy, content creation and social media management.

As the Social Media & Communications Internship is a remote position, a computer and consistent access to the internet are required. The internship will last 10 weeks and the expected time commitment is 20-25 hours per week. Although flexible and subject to change, the anticipated start date is June 3, 2024 and the end date is August 9, 2024.

Primary responsibilities of the position may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in the oversight and maintenance of EMA Foundations social media presence on Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook
  • Developing, drafting, and posting social media posts and written content for newsletter and email communications
  • Collaborating with the Director of Communications to ensure that EMA brand voice is consistent across social media and other communications channels
  • Monitoring activity on our blog, rhizoma, and supporting the Director of rhizoma in the sourcing, review, and publication of content
  • Producing messaging materials and social media content in collaboration with EMA Foundation partners to support individual campaigns and fundraising initiatives
  • Engaging in research on social media strategies employed across the philanthropy industry to offer insight on potential differentiators and growth opportunities
  • Completing educational activities and professional development modules as advised

Desired Skills and Qualifications

The Social Media & Communications Intern position welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds, including undergraduate students, early career professionals, and individuals not currently pursuing college or university education. Interested applicants should have a developed interest in communications, social media, visual storytelling, marketing, philanthropy, and graphic design. Additional qualifications include:

  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Experience with video and podcast production and related editing software
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • The ability to work both synchronously and asynchronously
  • Experience managing social media accounts and creating targeted visual and written content

Compensation

EMA Foundation internships provide employment opportunities for young professionals motivated by our mission and the work of our partners. Interns undergo meaningful professional development and gain valuable exposure to the nonprofit industry and the ways in which they can contribute to the critically impactful work of creating a more empathetic and equitable world through dynamic philanthropic networks.

Embedded in our organizational ethos is the empowerment of young people which extends to our commitment to providing all employees with a livable wage. Interns will be compensated with a stipend of $5,000, less applicable taxes, disbursed bi-weekly throughout the summer.
