Special Education Program Manager

Job purpose

The Program Manager serves as a liaison between the Central Office and the schools for all things Special Education. Their primary role is to support and coach staff and schools in programing and the delivery of special education services.

Duties and responsibilities

  1. Serve as a liaison to schools in regards to special education policies and practices

  2. Support and coach staff in the development of programming options within the schools to meet individual student needs and to increase access to the universal curriculum

  3. Work with building staff to develop special education caseloads

  4. Serve as LEA for initial evaluations and other meetings, as needed

  5. Support and train staff in developing high quality and legally compliant IEPs

  6. Assist district administration with developing the master schedule in regards to special education programming

  7. Submit budget requests for resources, technology, etc to the Office of Special Education

  8. In collaboration with the central enrollment office (CEO), assist in the enrollment and transfer of students with disabilities from in-state and out-of-state schools

  9. Participate in intervention team meetings as part of the district MLSS

  10. Coordinate manifestation determination meetings with IEP case manager for students referred for a pre-expulsion hearing

  11. Field parent complaints as they relate to special education

  12. Review IEPs for legal compliance

  13. Collaborate with building principals to evaluate para-educators

  14. Coordinate additional support and manage specialty areas outside of assigned schools which may include: private schools, therapeutic programs, self-contained ID programs, early childhood, summer school, and transition services

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Special Education or related field

  • Current DPI License

  • At least 3 years of educational experience
