Introduction: Aspen Medical has an exciting opportunity for Optometrists to partner with us in providing temporary contracted medical services to Military Treatment Facilities throughout the United States. Today's posting will place you at the primary location of the Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command New England, Kittery, Maine. Hospital: Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command New England Location:United States, Kittery, Maine Core Duties:Contractor personnel shall perform a full range of duties consistent with their labor category, education, training, experience, clinical privileges (as applicable), and assigned position. General duties that apply to all personnel or across certain labor categories are given below.Maintain a level of productivity comparable with that of other individuals performing similar servicesParticipate in peer review and performance improvement activities as requested by the GovernmentPractice aseptic techniques as necessary. Comply with infection control guidelines to include the proper handling, storage, and disposal of infectious wastes, and the use of universal precautions to prevent the spread of infectionFunction with an awareness and application of safety proceduresPerform efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events. Anticipate potential problems/emergencies and make appropriate interventions. Notify supervisor, director, or other designated government person regarding problems that the HCW is unable to manageApply an awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and strive to manage situations in a reduced risk mannerParticipate in the implementation of the Family Advocacy Program as directed. Participation shall include, but not be limited to, appropriate medical examination, documentation, and reportingExercise awareness and sensitivity to patient/significant others' rights, as identified within the MTFMaintain an awareness of responsibility and accountability for own professional practiceParticipate in continuing education to meet own professional growth. Basic Life Support (BLS) and other trainings in support of professional licensure or credentials may not be obtained at the MTF by a HCW during working hoursAttend and/or comply with all annual training classes required by the Command, to include but not limited to online annual training provided by the MTF: disaster training, infection control, Sexual Harassment, Bloodborne Pathogens, Fire and Safety, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE), and all other required trainingActively participate in the command's Performance Improvement Program. Participate in meetings to review and evaluate the care provided to patients, identify opportunities to improve the care delivered, and recommend corrective action when problems existParticipate in the provision of in-service training to clinic staff members. Provide training and/or clinical direction as applicable to supporting government employees (e.g., hospital corpsmen, students, etc.)Attend and participate in various meetings as directedPerform timely, accurate, and concise documentation of patient careOperate and manipulate automated systems such as electronic health record, ADS, Essentris, Clinical Information System (CIS) and various other databases, participate in clinical staff Performance Improvement (PI) and Risk Management (RM) functions, as prescribed by the Commander. Maintain DOD email account as directed. The HCW shall be responsive to all email and voicemail communicationsExercise appropriate delegation of tasks and duties in the clinical direction and coordination of health care team members, patient care, and clinic activitiesMaintain documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with clinic directives and prepare such records and reports as may be required. All records and reports must be legible. Abbreviations must be only those listed in local instructionsAdditional Duties:Assigned to the Optometry Division within the Occupational Health DepartmentThe HCW shall provide services within the scope of the clinical privileges granted by the commanding officer, and the applicable duties provided in the basic contractBenefits: Virtual InterviewsVariable of locations throughout the United States. Contract: Year-long assignment Performance hours: Monday-Friday 0630-1700 (Specific days, hours, and shift length will be scheduled by the designated government representative. The specific schedule for each two (2) week period will be provided one (1) month in advance by the government supervisor or designee)Detailed pay rates will be outlined in the initial interview phase Minimum Qualifications:Degree: Doctor of OptometryCertifications in addition to Basic Life Support (5.2.3):Possess a certification to use Therapeutic Pharmaceutical AgentsEducation: Graduate from a school or college approved by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE) of the American Optometric AssociationExperience: As required to meet clinical competency requirements specified in the Service-specific credentialing instructionsPossess a minimum of two (2) years of experience in the preceding three (3) years as an Optometrist. Experience must include post-operative refractive surgery to include familiarity with Excimer laser, photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) and Laser-Assisted in situ Keratomileusis (LASIK), patient selection, and co management of refractive surgery patientsProvide two (2) letters of recommendation written within the last two (2) years attesting to the HCW's clinical skills. A minimum of one (1) of the letters must be from a supervisor. The other letter must be from either clinic or hospital administrators, or practicing physicians. Reference letters shall attest to the quality and quantity of experience including, but not limited to, the communication skills between practitioner and patient and among peers, and must include name, title, phone number, date of reference, address and signature of the individual providing referenceLicensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as an optometristPhysical Requirements: Must be able to walk, stand, and bend for 6-8 hours per dayAble to distinguish between basic colorsMust be able to read and interpret handwritten and typewritten printAbility to communicate effectively with customers in stressful situationsMust be able to pass a criminal background investigation and undergo urine drug testingAdvanced medical and anatomical skillsKnowledge of general surgery practicesExcellent interpersonal and communication skillsStrong motor skills and manual dexterityAbility to work long and irregular hoursAdvanced analytical skills and attention to detailAbility to remain calm and focused on stressful situationsOrganizational and time management skillsAspen Medical is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
