Specific assignment details may vary based on the healthcare facility, patient population and/or the type of cardiology practiced. Provide comprehensive cardiac care to patients in various inpatient and outpatient settings. Perform cardiac catheterization and interventional procedures (depending on the cardiologist's subspecialty). Educate and counsel patients on heart disease prevention, risk factors and healthy lifestyle choices. Collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals (nurses, surgeons, specialists) to ensure coordinated patient care. Maintain accurate and complete medical records for all patients. Stay current on the latest advancements in cardiology through continuing education. In-depth knowledge of cardiology principles and practices, including diagnosis, treatment and prevention of heart disease. Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school. Residency training program in internal medicine accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA). Fellowship training in cardiology (may be preferred depending on the position). Board certification in cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or the AOA. Active and unrestricted medical license in Illinois While specific requirements may vary, most locum cardiologist positions prefer candidates with at least one year of experience providing cardiac care in a clinical setting. Locum tenens cardiologist positions are temporary assignments, often lasting weeks or months, to address staffing shortages in hospitals, cardiology clinics, or other healthcare facilities.
