As an Associate Software Engineer on the Policy team, you will sit at the heart of Hagerty's insurance business, driving core functionality responsible for coverage offerings, rate calculations, and management of the policy lifecycle. The Policy team supports both the configuration of the insurance product as well as the core business functionality and workflows to allow customers to create their quote, issue their policy, and make changes once the policy is issued. This team is highly insurance-focused and is responsible for ensuring ongoing compliance with Hagerty's insurance partners and with the regulated mandates provided by each state.

What you'll do

  • Develop well-documented, scalable, and resilient software by:
    • Writing clean, human-readable code for your team while being honest about unknowns and receptive to feedback
    • Knowing and learning required tools and techniques such as:
      • How to use tools needed for the whole software development lifecycle, including IDEs, SDKs, source control, databases, operating system tools, deployment tools, logging, and monitoring systems, etc.
      • How to properly develop software which follows best practices such as object-oriented thinking, and industry standard design patterns.
    • Can review architecture and understand system interaction and concepts.
    • Helping to develop or improve existing comprehensive and automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
  • Own and support features, modules, and products by:
    • Participating in the on-call support rotation for team's production services
    • Being a steward of your team's products. Participate in stories from inception to providing value for the customer in production.
    • Ensuring the overall health of the product by following existing team guidelines
    • Develop a working understanding of your team's products and what capabilities exist.
    • Monitor and understand the product metrics.
  • Contribute to and engage in a collaborative environment by:

  • This role can be worked from any U.S. remote location.
  • Familiarity with public company requirements, including Sarbanes Oxley and key regulations, if applicable. For SOX compliant roles, responsible for designing, executing, and documenting internal controls where they have been identified as owners to prevent errors in financial reporting, processes, and business operations. Including attestation to the completeness, accuracy, and compliance of all financial reporting data, where applicable.
