Purpose of the Position

To prevent actual or potential product adulteration from rodents, insects, birds and other pests. To ensure that Simmons facilities meet all BRC and FSMA Standards.

Essential Position Responsibilities - This is a Salary Exempt position.

Administers an Integrated Pest Management Systems (IPM) approach for Simmons. Works directly with third party pest contractors on any/all issues as it relates to scope of work performed.Routinely participates in the weekly service with pest service technicians at the various Simmons locations and makes recommendations based on findings for deficiencies noted in the facility and with the service being provided by the pest company.Maintains Simmons pest threshold KPI's. Notifies appropriate personnel of pest control issues, food safety issues, human safety issues, and maintenance issues.

Supports Facilities on Sanitation Program. Performs sanitation assessments at the various Simmons facilities to recognize areas of opportunity and implement corrections.Work directly with third party sanitation companies and in-house sanitation teams on proper cleaning procedures and policies. Support facilities on recognition of appropriate corrective actions on sanitation issues.

Supports Internal Audit Program.Responsible for performing audits with both the internal audit team and independently on BRC as it relates to Pest and Sanitation activities. Provides post audit support on appropriate corrective actions.

Create a Continuous Improvement Culture. Develops a continuous improvement culture for employees by sharing pest control knowledge through annual training sessions and Town Hall content. Responsible for creating routine reports and conducting meetings with plant management covering pest and sanitation data.Represent Simmons as a Pest Control expert to our customers and participates in all customers and third-party audits as needed. Improve in processes as well as continually find ways to drive out waste.

Identifies food safety issues to maintain BRC and FSMA audit readiness. Shutdown processing equipment when warranted. Work with plant management to resolve plant issues prior to returning the processing equipment into service. Make recommendations on new construction and new acquisitions related to facility design and food readiness.

Participates as a member of the Team. Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies; coordinates work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the plant management and collaborating with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforces actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.

Simmons Operating systems principles and objectives: Is familiar with Simmons' established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies, Lean); understands the responsibility to maintainfamiliarity with the systems and this position's role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impactof individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.

Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives: This position description is intended to guide the activities of the Pest Control Manager and is not intended to limit the thinking and creativity of the person tothe work of this function nor is it intended that this describe all the work that may be required of the person in thisposition.

Physical Activities: Climb ladders and bins in excess of 45'. Maneuver in tight spaces. Move items of 55-80+ lbs. in weight from one place to another. Able to differentiate between colors. Able to work in extreme temperature conditions (very hot or very cold). Bending, crawling, and reaching. Enters and locates information on a computer.Visually verifies information, often in small print. Communicates with Customers, Vendors, or Employees via telephone, in person, and/or electronic mail. May present information to small or large groups. Must be able to work in various temperatures. Move about in a manufacturing environment and surrounding property.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): As required by visiting facility.

Travel: Routine travel to and from multiple facilities or worksites both in state and out of state that will require overnight stay. Much of the work will be during normal business hours but will require evenings/nights and weekends as required.

Technical Experience: At least 2 years supervisory experience which involved collaborating with a team to resolve issues, understanding plant process flow, leading direct reports, gaining high agreement with application of Lean rules, demonstrating results for their area of responsibility. Preferred prior pest management experience. Ability to acquire Department of Agriculture Core - 00 and Category 11.

Industry Experience: Understand proper pest identification and have a thorough knowledge of the common practices, tools and terminology used to control pests and thorough knowledge of the use and characteristics of pesticides. Know the appropriate application and handling techniques for all pesticides. Knowledgeable with sanitation practices in a food & beverage facility.Previous food safety auditing experience.

Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in a Science Discipline or 4 years related experience.
