The Assistant Assessor maintains commercial appraisals, reassessment activities, and enforcement of mobile home permit ordinances.

Essential Functions:
  • Supervises all appraisal personnel, ensures that all appraising functions are completed in a timely manner and in compliance with state laws and regulations and forwarded to the Tax Assessor for his/her review and decision.
  • Evaluates on a consistent basis written requests for review of classification and assessments, and develops recommendations for the County Assessor based on established procedures.
  • Supervises mobile home verification and assessment program.
  • Administers activities associated with valuations involving rollback taxes; reviews field appraiser calculations.
  • Evaluates claims of error involving Data Entry.
  • Keeps abreast of new or changing laws and regulations affecting the Assessor's Office.
  • Supervises statistical data analysis for reassessment.
  • Reviews reports in preparation for assessment notices and tax bills.
  • Interacts with outside vendors to plan and implement the printing of office documents, tax bills, and assessment notices.
  • Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals.
Non-Essential Functions:
  • Backup to Assessor.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs department staff to accomplish required work with accuracy and in a timely manner.
  • Prepares and submits various reports as instructed by Assessor.
  • Interprets department policies and procedures to staff, public officials, and the general public.
  • May represent the Assessor's Office before the Board of Appeals.
  • Completes continuing education and training as needed.
  • Performs all other related duties as required.
  • Requires an Associate's Degree in Business Administration, real estate appraisal, or a related field; completion of required appraisal courses and training; three to five years of experience in real estate appraising or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must possess a state real estate appraiser's license
  • A valid South Carolina driver's license.
